So where has Apple moved the "free disk space: XXX GB" so we can easily find it? I miss seeing it when I click on the hard drive window. I do know we can see it if we get info about the drive, but is there any way else to do it?

I seem to missing this handy feature in Lion as well. I tried to find out how to enable it, but so far without succes :'(
Click on the "Apple" logo in the top left corner of the screen. From the list choose "About this Mac", then choose More Info, then along the top there are four items, Overview, Displays, Storage, Memory.
It is also available in Disk Utility, Activity Monitor, and Finder (MacIntosh HD>Get Info)
Are you talking about the status bar at the bottom of Finder windows?
When In Finder go to the Menu bar click on View then Show Status Bar.
That will put a bar on the bottom of your finder window and it tells you how many items in any folder you are viewing and remaining space on the Hard drive.

In finder go to the "view" menu and select "show status bar". Your available disk space will then be visible when you select a drive in the finder.

Is there any way to set this up as a global preference? Choosing it in View has to be done on a window-by-window basis, which is a pain.
Ok, my mistake, it does it for future windows but is not retroactive (ie not applied to all the windows already open).
Like GetInfo, this display overstates the free space on my hard drive by about 160GB (out of 500 total). Any idea about this?
