Jul 10, 2012 3:00 AM in response to David L. Huxtableby Ranchor,Purchased a new MacBook Air yesterday and logged into the guest account to check it out. Today I realised I can no longer access user settings (i.e. same problem as others above).
Just followed David's instructions, now fixed.
David L. Huxtable wrote:
I used Directory Utility (/System/Library/Core Services/Directory Utility) to delete two extra Guest accounts ("Guest1" and "Guest2").
After deleting those two records I could open the Users & Groups System Preference Pane.
Cheers David!

Jul 24, 2012 10:23 AM in response to masa Tby Bill Jacobs2,Users who are stuck with a non functional Mac where David's solution didn't work may wish to backup your files to an external hard disk using Time Machine then reinstall a clean copy of Lion.
Do this by rebooting and holding down Command-R after you hear the bootup chime.
If it offers to save user and network preferences, uncheck that box so you don't carry over old problems.
Once reinstalled, open time machine and restore your files.
Not a great answer, but it SHOULD do the job.

Aug 13, 2012 8:37 PM in response to Bill Jacobs2by rycyt,Hey guys, somehow I am unable to access Directory Utilities.
I'm on a MacBook Air 13", Late 2011, came installed with OS Lion when I bought it brand new. I could use Users and Groups for a while, but after a while when I wanted to change my display picture, they showed me an error message "Could not load Users & Groups preference pane".
I've tried accessing /System/Library/Core Services/Directory Utility, but I don't know how. I've looked under "Systems" in System Preferences, 2nd row from the bottom. I dont see a "Library" there.
Does anyone know what am I doing wrongly, and how can I fix it?
I'm unsure if I can re-install OS Lion as mine came pre-installed with it already.
My Mac is currently on Version 10.7.4
Help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
