file size and movie stills question

how do I compress movies that have the extension: .iMovieProject to very very small file size ? Do I have to have QuickTime Pro ? MyMovieProject file is 1 Gig. Also do I have to have QuickTime Pro to save movie stills from the imovieProject file? I am able to save them onto desktop, but they do not seem to go into iphoto??? THANKS a billion.

.iMovieProject only LOOKS like a file, but it really is a "package".

1 GB is about 5 minutes running time.

You can't compress video any more without losing quality. What is the purpose of this compression? (i.e. Posting on web site? Archiving for later editing?)
