Mail "send" sound not working

Hello all.

Since upgrading to Lion on my MacBook Pro I have lost the "swoosh" sound when a message is sent.

I have confirmed that the "Play user interface sound effects" is checked in System Preferences, Sound - and that the "Play sounds for other mail actions" is checked in the Mail, Preferences.

All other sounds on the Mac are working - such as new mail, the sound for emptying the trash, etc.

The only thing that is silent is the sound that is made when a new message is sent in Mail.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Look in system settings --> Sounds --> Sound effects and check the value of the dropdown. If you installed other drivers, this one might be set as default. Set it to a source that is always available, such as for instance screen audio, internal speakers etc.... depends on your config.

I am having the same problem on an iMac. I can hear other sounds and Play sound effects under Mail prefs is checked for me too.

I got it back!!!! From Mail, I went to Mail > Preferences > General and unchecked the Play Sounds and Quit Mail. Then I reopened it and checked Play sounds and the swoosh is back. :-)

JohnTheAppleFan's suggestion worked for me. Now the sounds are back. I called Apple for help, but my new Macbook Air is 15 days over three months old, so unlike the old days when you got a year's phone support, now you get a year of Hardware warrenty, but you have to buy AppleCare to continue phone support after three months. How do they determine in some cases that you need hardware support if you don't first exhaust software issues? In any case, one more nice service has been trimmed.
