I purchased an external drive but don't know how to change the location of where images are stored for iphoto. Also, should I impport movies separately through i movie?

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

1. Quit iPhoto

2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.

3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.

4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Movies should be brought into iMovie for editing.

Thank you. I got the photos transfered and am about to reopen Iphoto. Whe I transfered the library I named the the it iPhoto Library.old thinking I would remove the .old on the trnasfered version. But when I try to edit the name on the external drive copy it reverts back to the name iPhoto Library.old. Any thoughts?

Just reopened iphoto and it works-keywords and all. Still working on the name changing. FYI I also tried to change the name on my internal photo library which I had named iPhoto library.old before copying and it now reads iphoto Library internal.old - menaing it added the .old to teh new name I gave it.

So, becuase I had the problem on the internal as well I don't think it is just a format issue with the hard drive. But, I went to finder >get info and it lists: Spotlight comments, General, More info, Name and extension, perview and sharing permissions. (BTW-should I be checking "correct answer" so you get points?) total novice at this forum!
