Does lion OS support parallels desktop?

Since this is a fairly new application, I would assume you will not have problems but before you upgrade, check the parallels website for any known issues. Also find the application in the finder and hit command i. In the Kind section next to the word Application you should see either (PowerPC) (Intel) or (Universal). If it is powerpc, the application will not work and if it is the other two it will work.

You need to be running the latest build of ParallelsDesktop 6 to work with Lion.

You will need to upgrade to Parallels 6. I am experiencing the same issue. I have Parallels 4 with Windows XP pro, and was very disappointed that although it launch, I could not launch Windows because it needs an upgraded driver.

After spending $29.99 on the world's most advanced operating system, I shall not spend $39.99 on that Parallels junk. So I have decided to run Windows on my old E-mac with Virtual PC.

I installed parallels 6 on a fresh load of 10.6.8 after upgrading to 10.7. I set up a bootcamp partition and installed win7 with out any problems. after installing the bootcamp stuff and parallels transfer stuff in windows and rebooting to mac os parallels started setting up the virtual machine. It runs horribly slow on a core 2 duo 2.5 w/ 4gb ram but then again so does OS X 10.7...

I gave up trying to boot win7 OS virtually as it just wont boot. I had much better luck with vmware fusion 3 & winXP

When you get on Parallels Desktop 6 you'll need to make sure you're on the latest build (12094): http://kb.parallels.com/en/111612

I believe Parallels Desktop 6 and over is compatible with OS X Lion. Be aware that there may be some bugs in any Parallels version running on OS X Lion.

The last couple of version 6 updates worked with Lion, but you're better off just updating to the latest version, the updates are free. The latest updates were specifically for improving compatibility with Lion.

The correct question to ask is "Does Parallels support Lion?".

It's not Apple's responsiblity to make their OS compatible with a 3rd party application.

I upgraded to the latest version of Parallels after upgrading to Lion. Version 5 was installed on my Snow Leopard installation, and this combo worked well. I ditched Parallels on Lion; it didn't work well, and I didn't want to spend much time getting it to work better--even if doing so was possible in principle.

It was as simple and painless as can be to upgrade PD5 to PD6. There was no time spend accept downloading and running the install package. A very solid piece of software in my experience.

Are you running Windows 7 on Parallels?

I was wondering if you need to reactivate windows after the upgrade to Lion due to changing hard disk numbers or something like that.

mkalk66 -Running Windows 7, and two WindowsXP. I did not have to "reactivate" anything.

TIP: You can use Apple's Spotlight feature in the upper right corner of your desktop and search for the location of the Parallels v.5 ".pvm" image. Then Option Key + drag that to some other drive (or place like your desktop) so that a Parallels 6 upgrade won't reformat the image and potential risk its integrity. THEN, install the 6 upgrade and launch your .pvm from anywhere. We keep ours on a separate storage drive connected by FireWire 800.
