howdy. my experience with mail is the same as lukes - after i placed the V2 folder on the desktop, i launched mail and it took just a few minutes to rebuild the new mail/files/etc. i am a happy camper, but i am *not* installing any further lion upgrades until the bugs get all the way worked out!!!!
I had the same problem with mail as well, when using gmail. I have now litterally tried everything, including openning captcha, clearing caches, moving the v2 folder, reinstalling lion (but not wiping the hd), using other programs like thunderbird, deleting all my accounts and starting fresh, using different routers, and taking it to an apple store. When I try to create a new account I get this error message
The Google IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
Obviously gmail is availible, since I can access in safari, and all of my settings are correct. Is anyone continuing to have problems, despite trying all of the suggestions on here? The mac guys are completely stumped.
I just got a brand new MacBook Pro 4 weeks ago after my iBook G4 served me faithfully and without an problems for almost 6 years.... Needless to say I'm more than a bit upset.
Hi Luke
Hoping you may be able to help
I went to the [user] ~/library/application support/ but no Mail folder in this location any ideas ?
This will only work when you have no more than a few mail accounts. When you have let;s say 80 or 90 mail accounts, you have lost all of your data. Not only did you lose your account data but also your message history.
Updating to 10.7.2 should help.
The mail folder is not locates in application support, it is located in ~/library you will find the mail folder overthere. It holds the Bundles and the mail accounts in V2
Hi,
I installed Lion yesterday and everything worked great. This morning when I turned my Mac on the first thing that came up was a calendar. I closed that and my excel came up. I closed that and then tried to open mail but nothing happens. I tried numerous times with no luck.
I read what to do here but am afraid I am so non-technical I could not fine where to get the user/library info you talked about. I went to preferences but could not find what you mention. I would greatly appreciate it if you could walk me through how to get this. Thanks!
I finally figured out how to get to the library and I deleted the few files but nothing has changed. HELP!
I finally got it all ok.
Well everything worked great yesterday. Now I just turned my Mac on this morning and am right back to the same thing again, mail will not come up. Now what??
the mail application crashes and I have tro restart it constantly.
Also getting and sending mail takes a very long time (imap, mobile me) compared to Leopard.
any one else in having same problems ?
I took my Mac into Best Buy this morning and got lucky because an Apple person was there. he took my Mac and worked on it for about 15 minutes and got mail working normal again. He did have to change something with my cox provider to get it to work.
I had the same problem with Mail on Mountain Lion. No matter what, I could't get the main mail window to open and show my mailboxes, even though the dock icon showed the number of new mails and task bar was showing for Mail. I could only open new message screen. I tired to rebuild the mailbox database again and few other tricks I found from googling... no help. Not showing mail even in Mission Control. Until...
I noticed I started having similar problems with other applications as well (e.g. Microsoft office). Finally I figured out the problem... for me it related to using a secondary display now and then, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable once in a awhile. For some time, I hadn't used the other display, and about the same time the mail stopped opening the main window. I got my mail main window back by plugging back the external display and deselecting the "mirror displays" check box form display properties! There it was all the time, the mail window, somewhere outside the reach of screen. I guess even when I had restarted the computer, ML remebered my window positions and left mail outside the only display I was using at that time.
Obviously Mountain Lion has some things to learn when it comes to the use of multiple displays on a temporal basis.
I have the same problem and cannot find the [user] ~/library/application support/Mail folder.
My desktop runs OS 10.7.5, there's no Library folder under my Home folder, only under Macintosh HD, and within this Library folder there's no Mail folder.
Any ideas?
Safari does not use the same server, Ping imap.gmail.com to establish that you have a connection to it, if succesful use Googles settings:

In Finder open the Go menu, press the option key and select Library
Just deleted all Mail accounts, recreated them and suddenly all is working fine. Go figure. Not liking Lion so far 😕 it's one problem after the other.
