my email is not working with os x lion - pls help

My email has stopped working since I upgraded to OS X Lion. Any ideas on what I can do to get it working again?

I am having exactly the same problem - and have noticed that several others are retporting similar problems in other forums. Unfortunately, there still appears to be no solution.

Since I loaded Lion, when I open Mail I simply get a toolbar but no message window. When I select CMD + 0 I get a blank window with with "no mailbox selected" on the top of it. Mail preferences does not work neither do most of the other view options. Curiously, it does seem to allow me to create and send a new mail message... although I cannot see anything once it has gone.

This is desperately important for me. My business depends on email correspondence.

Come on Apple... this software should have been stress-tested to prevent this kind of thing from happening!

I have just managed to find a solution!!!

I went to the [user] ~/library/application support/Mail folder (you will now need to press alt to view this 'hidden' folder in Finder) then moved the V2 folder (and all its contents) to the desktop.

I then reopened Mail which promptly rebuilt all the mail accounts. Once I verified that everything was now working properly, I deleted the old V2 folder from the destop.

Voilà! I now have Mail working again.

I hope this precedure might be of some value to others with the same problem.

I have the same problem (alongside others) since I installed OS X Lion. I installed it 4 days ago and today my mail stopped altogether. Cannot start it up. Apple Care support could not help me, other than suggesting to reinstall OS X lion.

I have several occurring problems. Unsteady WIFI connection. Sometimes I cannot start Time machine and accessing mail is impossible. Some programs cannot be closed.

Does anyone have experience with this advice. Are all OS X bug problems fixed by reinstalling? Because I have three devices to reistall and Back ups to put back. This takes a lot of time and if it doesn't work I'd rather do something usefull with my time.

I have had contact with Apple Support And they suggested something like your solution. I had to move the apple.mail.plist foldder to the desktop and restart mail. But in my case that did not do the Trick.

I still cannot acces mail.

I have several problems after instlling OS X Lion. Wifi is unstable, time machine does not start and Mail cannot be accessed.

I had this exact problem as well. After futzing with it for most of a day, trying everything under the sun suggested by various folks on this and other discussion threads, I followed Lukes suggestion on moving the V2 folder in ~/Library/Application support/Mail to the Desktop and restarting Mail. Mail started fine (at last!) and rebuilt my accounts from my various server accounts (both imap and pop). Once it was done, I imported each of my old mailboxes from V2 one-at-a-time, leaving behind defunct, spam, trash, &c mailboxes. Sure, I had to reorganize my mailboxes, and sift through a lot of mail I'd already dealt with that was back in my inboxes, but it seems to have solved the problem.
