everytime i try to download the boot camp 4.0 windows software from the new boot camp assistant via Lion - it says "can't install Windows Support software because it is not currently available from the software update server"
What do I do?

No not yet. I've been reading further in some other posts and saw that someone said that there are only Boot Camp 4.0 windows software updates for the Mac Book Air and that the rest of us have no upgrade at the present time. I'm not sure if that's true or not. Can anyone confirm that?
If the true that how can we download the drives?
If you have the Snow Leopard OS install disc, the boot camp 3.0 drivers stored on that disc are supposed to suffice for now, as far as I've read. Once you install those, make sure you go back to the apple.com/downloads website to download the 3.1 and the 3.2 update.
If I do that, whether need to re-install Windows 7 via Boot Camp from Mac OS X Lion?
you are only installing or updating a driver. that's all.
and 4.0 seems iffy or busted right now.
So I would avoid the Boot Camp 4.0. It 'should' have added better support to detect a Lion hard drive boot partitions but that doesn't even work.
If there was a new Windows 7 support then a simple update from Boot Camp 3.2 to 3.3 would suffice. Otherwise you have a $29 tax. I'm waiting for 10.7.1 and 4.01+.
Upgrading to Lion form Snow Leopard didn't affect my original Boot Camp install at all. The Boot Camp windows software i had installed on there a while back (version 3.2) is still there and works fine. I just wanted the 4.0 update if there was one available.
I'm not sure what everyone's been talking about. My Mac Book Pro (2006-2007) model has been running Lion just fine. The only snag I've seen thus far is the downloading of the Boot Camp 4.0 windows software from the boot camp assistant. If the update is not available right now by design, that's fine - I just wish the response from the boot camp would have stated that.

How u solve the problem? I'm facing the same problem too where boot camp assistant can't dl the windows support software... Even though I manage to install window 7 into my Imac but basically it's just useless without the drivers..
Try the download again, I have used it succesfully several times (mainly for MBP)

That's what I thought but perseverence worked
Get a Snow Leopard retail disk, it contains the 3.0 frivers, then software update will get you to 3.2 (via 3.1)
so this mean i have to go and buy a snow leopard disc from apple store for the sake of these drivers?
