Alert This software cannot be installed on this computer

Hello,

I have a Imac G5 PPC, 1.8 GHZ. After having some issues with the computer starting up, I decided to erased the HD with the Zero out Data option so I can reinstall with the OS disks that I have. My computer came with 2 disks that are gray that state - iMAC G5 Mac OS X Install Disc 1 - Mac OS version 10.4, AHT version 2.5.1, Disc Version 1.0 and the second disc reads Mac OS install Disc 2, includes Mac OS 9.2, Disc Version 1.0.

The issue I am having is after erasing the HD, when I boot from the install disc 1, I get prompted to select a language, after I select it, I get the preparing to install screen then a box opens that states, Alert This software cannot be installed on this computer. It give me the option to "Restart" or "Startup Disk"...

When I select either the results are the same. It just continues to produce that same exact outcome. Help!User uploaded file

Hello, go back to the part where you erased it & check the Format, is it MacOS Extended/HFS+?

Might try these 2 also...

PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMD+Option+o+f ?

reset-nvram (press Enter)

set-defaults (press Enter)

reset-all (press Enter)

Does your iMac have the built-in iSight?

From my reserch it would seem that that is what those are for, though there appears to be one revision of that that I've never seen that is...

That is my best guess so far, but this is the first time I've ever seen a 2z691-5digit-A Disc mentioned, but one of the many threads I read seemed to indicate that 2Z691-5317-A was for the iSight moodel & not the others, it's not unheard of that Apple shipped the wrong Discs with some Macs either. 😟

Is there a Read Me file on the DVD that sometimes says the models it works on?

I am having the same problem. I am getting an alert that the software cannot be installed on my computer. I have a late 2006 MacBook Pro, model number A1211. I used Wipe Dirve to erase the HD. and after I completed the wipe I inserted the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 that came with the computer. It is version 10.4.10, the code on the Disk 1 is 2Z691-6088-A, the code on Disk 2 is 2Z691-6113-A.

I thought this would be easy like everything else Mac....any help would be awesome! I need to get an operating system back on my old MacBook Pro so it can be functional again.

Thanks!
