Second 1080p display defaults to 1080i when turned on

I have a late 2010 27" iMac connect via HDMI to a Sony receiver (sound and video), then the Sony is connected to an LG 60" TV. I generally leave the TV off unless I'm using Plex, or Aperture. Every time I turn the TV back on, the display defaults to 1080i and I have to manual select 1080p from display preferences (which displays flawlessly).

This is an issue in both Snow Leopard and Lion. Additionally, when just the Sony is on, it shows 1080p output to the second monitor (dispay prefences recognizes the Sony as my second display regardless if the TV is on or not).

Help!

iMac

Are you using HMDI from the Sony to the LG? My guess has to do with your Sony reciever or iMac. Tv's are just diplays, they output whatever signal it gets. First thing to check is the content on the iMac, is that content truly 1080p? Next, check your Sony receiver video output settings. If it's set to Auto by default, change to Manual and select 1080p. This will upconvert any video signal (480i,480p,720p,1080i,1080p) to 1080p and output it to the TV(assuming your Sony has that feature).

that is what I am saying it has to be some sort of setting on the MBP somewhere but I cant find it. Its not a huge deal i mean it takes me about 10 seconds to open up the display settings after plugging in the monitor and changing it to use best for this display and it fixes it. But if someone else has had this promblem and has figured it out then that would be nice.
