When is an AIFF file shareable with GarageBand for iPad?

Hey,

OK, I have figured out how to use iTunes File Sharing to export a song from my Mac and import it in GarageBand for iPad using the following steps:

1) In GarageBand for Mac, select Share->Export Song to Disk...

2) Export an AAC file

3) Import the file into iTunes

4) Go to Preferences in iTunes, select the General tab, and change your Import Settings to use AIFF

5) Select the AAC file from step (3)

6) Select Advanced->Create AIFF Version

7) Select the AIFF for File Sharing with GarageBand

8) Import the AIFF into GarageBand

This is a lot of steps, so I am trying to streamline it. I have tried two other ways to create and AIFF file in iTunes:

1) In GarageBand for Mac, select Share->Send Song to iTunes...

1) In GarageBand for Mac, select Share->Export Song to Disk...

2) Uncheck the Compress checkbox

3) Export an AIFF file

Both of these options create a file with an extension of ".aif", however neither one is recognized by GarageBand for iPad.

Can someone explain why, or is this a bug?

Thanks,

Alan

The import feature for GarageBand for iPad requires uncompressed audio in AIFF, WAV, CAF or Apple Loops format at 16bit, 44.1 kHz. Provide you get iTunes or GarageBand to output in one of those formats you should be able to access the files on the iPad.

I have been able to decrease the number of steps by changing the Audio Resolution in GarageBand:

1) In GarageBand for Mac, select Preferences->Advanced->Audio Resolution->Good or Better

2) In GarageBand for Mac, select Share->Send Song to iTunes...

3) Select the AIFF for File Sharing with GarageBand

4) Import the AIFF into GarageBand

Now that's more like it!
