Has it been removed completely? Or just removed from the Dock?

The icons in the Dock are specialized aliases, not the items themselves. You can check by looking in your Applications folder for TextEdit - if it's there, just drag its icon to to where you want it ion the Dock, wait for the icons there to move out of the way, then drop it in.

    Thanks for the reply Don,

It was actually trashed and this is a new computer so the OS was installed when I bought it and had no install discs. I took a chance and installed text edit from my old OSX10.2 install discs with the help of Pacifist. I don't see where I got anything else on my hard drive and everything is working okay so far - knock on wood. Maybe you can help me with something else? I need some software for uninstalling MacKeeper. I've trashed everything that I could find but I noticed in the consul that there is a continuous stream of activity originating from MacKeeper. Appreciate any help you can give.

Glad you got TextEdit sorted out.

    Uninstall MacKeeper...

    Solution

Download and run our Removal Tool.

Alternatively, quit Safari and delete the following files (if they exist):

    • /Applications/MacKeeper.app
    • /Library/Application Support/MacKeeper
    • /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.AntiVirus
    • /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.plugin.AntiTheft.daemon
    • /Library/Logs/MacKeeper.log
    • ~/Library/Caches/com.zeobit.MacKeeper
    • ~/Library/Caches/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper
    • ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper
    • ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.plugin.Backup.agent
    • ~/Library/Logs/MacKeeper.log
    • ~/Library/Preferences/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.plist
    • ~/Library/Preferences/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper.plist

Where ~ = your home folder.

A new computer on Snow Leopard with no install discs??

They're in the white box with the quick start manual and the warranty booklet. If they're not there, call the store you bought it from and ask why they aren't there; they are part of the Mac. They contain not just the operating system, but Apple Hardware Test and the iLife suite so you'll need them sooner or later.

    Thanks BD.

I checked manually - I got them all but one (or not) - then I ran the MacKeeper Removal Tool which told me it had been successfully removed.  I was still getting a lot of MacKeeper logs appearing in the Console for at least an hour after it was removed. They appear to have stopped now - do you think it's gone? There is still a headiing in the console list on the left entitled MacKeeper with a huge window of computer talk. Should I trash that?
