I just got an iPhone4 from Vodofone in Italy. I was attempting to sync with itunes. itunes asked to load 4.3.5 I said sure. For 50 minutes itunes showed "waiting for iPhone" and on iPhone status bar with Apple above was empty. Went to restore iPhone and now after 40 min itunes shows "restoring iphone software" and iphone status has not moved - it shows some status. Can anyone help?

I have been trying to restore an iPhone 3gs for weeks. I've tried just about everything I can think of, including connecting it to a Mac to restore. It would get stuck every time when it went to restore firmware. I finally got it to work. Here's how:

I put the phone in the freezer. Once it was good and frozen, I tried restoring, but got the same problem. So I put it back in the freezer, and tried restoring it while it was in the freezer (had to have my laptop next to it). It worked! Give it a shot... It just might work!

I asked a question of the best way to restore iphone and take advantage of any added benefits such as reducing battery drain. The main reason for needing to restore is to resolve quirks overall. davidch posted a reply was helpful and I followed his instructions to the letter. One thing he said was not to restore from iTunes but "restore as new." My concern is after trying his suggestion it didn't seem to resolve battery issue or any of the "quirks." I updated my question and the discussion was branched to a new discussion. How ironic. Just coincidence? who knows. I do know I still need my concern addressed. If you have any advice on a best solution I would be most grateful.

Hey try this. It's my post and I found a fix that might help you. It might not but it's worth a try if you are still having problems. You may have already tried it, so did I, easily over a hundred times now over the past 5-7 weeks now.

Hope it helps. Or if you find another fix, let me know for reassurance that if it happens again there's another way to get around the iTunes restoring problem.
