New driver or kludge for Apple USB modem driver in 64 bit mode?

Like others I depend on an Apple USB modem to send and receive business faxes over a landline. I use a Mac Pro tower with a Nehalem quad core processor running at 2.8ghz. The modem worked in Snow Leopard in 32 bit mode, but when I began running it in 64 bit mode the OS warns that the modem is an 'unsupported device' and indeed the modem does not work.

Has anyone found a way to use Apple's modem in 64 bit mode?

MacPro quad-core Tower with 2.8 ghz Nehalem, Mac OS X (10.6.5), 6 gigs RAM
