avconvert: source file not found

Hello there,

I searched around here and have found no one get this same error with avconvert (a new command that lets you convert video files in os x lion, the same one used when you right click a video and choose "Encode selected video files"). Whenever I try to do this, convert a video file, I get the same error message: "avconvert: source file not found for source file://localhost/Users/(...) avconvert:failed to create an Export Session. Check setup."

I have tried using this service/command through automator, finder, and terminal, and all return the same error.

I think it's a bug in lion but please someone confirm, and apple fix.

Yea, I'm noticing all sort of bug in OS X Lion, so I'll just be waiting for the update I guess.

Hope then this issue will be fixed. Otherwise, forget about, I have googled for an hour without finding any sort of fix. It maybe because the OS is still brand new that there is nothing on forums. But as I said, I'll just be waiting for an update to the OS.

Update here if you find anything.

Firas, just a check, what is your configuration?

I'm using Perian (everything but wmv) and flip4mac (wmv). I made some more tries yesterday and saw that mpg files are properly encoded using "Encode selected files". wmv and avi are not.

So, i also posted a message on Perian forum... at the moment someone just told me to send a bug report to Apple, and I did that: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html.

Anyway, if I find anything I'll post it over here, too.

Ciao

I have the same error. Also when using the command via the Terminal.app. Guessing it's a bug. Waiting for 10.7.1.

here we are 4 months (give or take) and 10.7.1 did not provde a fix. My

"avconvert: failed tocreate an export session. Check setup"

also comes for trying to convert avi files.

Something else that wasn't fully tested before the release of Lion.

I have a DivX account and can't use the player unless I wan't to stare at my desktop with whatever open files and folders that are there, listen to the video but not see it and loose ALL control of everything. I have to efectivly cut the power to the Mac in order to be able to use it.

alright, 10.7.2 doesn't seemed to have fixed it. flv's dont convert. i'm trying an mp4 file now and it hasn't given me an error message. it did create an m4v version in the target folder but showed no progress indication that the conversion is going on.

i've purchased iVI video convert from the app store. unfortunately its not converting from apple to non apple formats yet. but does the job for my iDevices. it is able to convert flvs into m4v

Ok i managed to partially fix my problem.

Here's what i did, first i tried uninstalling perian and trying avconvert, it didn't work... gave the same error message.

Then i uninstalled Dvix from my mac, tried again, didn't work. So i reinstalled Divx restarted the system then tried and it worked!

I was able to convert .mp4, .mov, and some but not all types of .avi! .flv and .mkv didn't work (i guess because quicktime itself can't play these formats natively so can't expect avconvert to work)

Try it out and let me know if it works.

i'm not sure if this is a perian problem. but i'm sure it has nothing to do with divx as i installed it only post 10.7.2, when i made this post i had no divx.

in anycase, whether it works or not, the whole thing is very cheap and windows like! i've never come across such an understandable error message in my 3 years of using a mac. infact, they should had just left it to the automator and let developers make small apps that did the job and distribute it for free over the internet.

iVI is cheap and easy for now, and it even fetches video metadata and tags for itunes. 🙂
