Don't Replace Feature

The "Don't replace" accompanied with "apply to all" feature prior to Lion was very helpful in copying/transferring only the files that were different between the source and destination and now that capability seems to be gone.

Has anyone found a workaround or a way to restore this in Lion? This was very helpful for me with everything from basic document transfers to working with terabytes of Apple ProRes files in an edit bay.

OS X has always been a bit problematic in copying related folders through the GUI. In Lion, Apple has implemented a popularly request feature, but now it has dropped the previous feature...

I suggest familiarising yourself with the command line (in Terminal) - particularly the cp command.

The command:

$ cp -Rpn /source/ /target/

will copy the source directory to the target directory,

Recursively copying the sub-directory structure of /source/ into /target/

preserving attributes of the /source/ files (such as modification date and ownership)

not overwriting any existing files
