Lion Issues on starting up

I've been having small issues when I start Lion since the day I upgraded. When I start it up, it takes about 35-45 sec, (not sure whats the average seconds it takes but before it was faster with SL), next issue: in the startup apple logo screen a progress bar shows up, when its done it goes to the account user screen where u have to log in, but i never had that set up when starting up, i havent put a password cause im the only one who uses the computer, but when it does this i have to log in so i do, then im on the desktop screen n i noticed on the right side of the menu bar i got no volume, and no wifi hardware detected, thats what it says. Im not sure if im on safeboot or what? but then when i restart my computer it restarts just fine, no progress bar, volume working n wifi good, n no user account log in screen, it just jumps to the desktop screen, like it should, these are the issues im having, so far...anyone here having a similar issue? or know what should i do?

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I also have an iMac from mid 2010, 3.2ghz i3 model. I have not found a solution yet, but I hope that Apple fixes it very soon, as it devaluates the Lion upgrade and overall iMac.

There are three things I could add to this discussion:

- I occasionally experienced a similar issue in Snow Leopard. Sometimes, without cause, the machine would boot in a similar way: slow, ask for password, no airport hardware, etc. I have checked the system over and over again using the diagnostic utility, but all seems OK. A major difference with Lion is that (in SL) it happened about once every other week, and now it happens every time I start up the machine.

- If you shut down (or reboot) the mac, you can deselect the restoring the open programs. If you do that, the iMac starts up just fine afterwards.

- Sometimes, airport stops working in normal Lion operations. The connection is still there, but nothing works. You have to disable airport and re-enable it to get it working again.

Perhaps the Airport hardware that came with the machine is presenting these problems?

thanks, i got one reply! ...we have similar issues, in SL i did have that issue very rarely thou, now with lion is every time i start it up, like u just said. I will give that a shot about unchecking that box when shutting it down or restarting it, but im pretty sure i did do it n i have the same issue.

Now, im thinking about doing a "clean install" of Lion and see if that fixes the problem, what do u think?

After you get your startup issue resolved you may want to follow Apple's advice in the owners manual. For all Mac's they state:

Putting Your iMac to Sleep

If you‘ll be away from your iMac for less than a few days, put it to sleep. When youriMac is in sleep, its screen is dark. You can quickly wake your iMac and bypass thestartup process.

I pulled this from the most mid 2011 iMac Manual however you will find a similar passage in all Mac manuals.

Perhaps it's due to a certain program. As I always close all running programs before shutting down, so perhaps it's a program running in the background, software that is usually running here is:

- MagicPrefs

- Evernote

- Dropbox

- Divvy

- Canon software for multifunctional (network scanner selector)

- 1PassWord

Any of you have software in common with this list?
