I use this function every day in my work. Suddenly, as of a couple of days ago, it's broken. Absolute nothing happens any ideas please? All latest updates running latest SL

Give the exact version number of the used Numbers as well as the exact version num of the operating system.
We are definitely not sooth sayers.

I wrote the original post on my iPhone away from my office,
Numbers is: 2.1 (436)
OS X is: 10.6.8
It would seem that this problem started after the recent iWork update...

I guess that it's why your 'signature' states system 10.6.3
It's really annoying to see that askers are unable to take care of the given infos.
On my system 10.6.8, this feature of Numbers 2.1 behave flawlessly.
So I will ask the well known question :
how is it behaving when it's used in an other account ?
If there is no other account available, create one.

Apologies, Yvan. I was more focused on why my username had been unilaterally from my original alias to my real name, to notice that detail. Have now updated my profile.
Ynhow, I just tried the same operation on my MacbookAir (exact same verisns of Numbers and OS X). Same result: nothing happens.

PS, sharing va email DOES still work for me in Pages - on both machines
I know this is not a universal problem with the Lion/iWork update. I have tried it on two of my computers and it works fine. Not that it solves your problem but it indicates that it should be solvable.

As you are running 10.6.8, the update 9.1 isn't required.

and
For_iWork:iWork '09:iWork9Update5.dmg (I don't know if it was re-introduced in Apple's download web site.
expand and apply my Uninstall script,
re install the original package
apply the downloaded updater.
But, maybe, it would be a good idea to go to :
download :
MAINTENANCE 1.3.8 (for Snow Leopard) and ask it to :
check and repair permissions
Clean most of the caches.

Thamk you so much Yvan! First I used Maintenance, but that didn't have any effect, so then I uninstalled, installed from my trusty iWork '09 cd, Updates 5 and voilà. So I will avoid the latest iWork update for now. But when I updgrade to Lion, I guess I'll have to.
Ok. I used to save/name my old files by date like this: 8/2/11.name
I found that renaming the file without any slashes allowed me to share via mail again.
Now I have renamed the file: 8-2-11.name
My problem went away
Now that I'm running Lion on my MBA, the probem has returned! My work-around earlier this morning was to create a Duplicate of each new Numbers file. That shared perfectly!? But then I have to delete it to avoid, well, duplicates. Using dashes in the date works for me too!

It seems to be all about the "/" in saving files! For all files that wouldn't launch mail, I noticed I had a / in file name. I went to duplicate the files by opening them and clicking "file" , "Duplicate". On the duplicate that then opens I noticed that the program automatcally replaced the / with a colon. The files with : can be shared via mail just fine, as excel, numbers or pdf.
p.s. I'm on 10.7.4
Sharing as pdf via Email in Numbers problem: nothing happens at all now!
