Can I install Snow Leopard on the new Mac Mini

I would like to upgrade from my Mac Mini 2009 (2.26 Ghz with Snow Leopard) to the new Mac Mini just released which will come with Lion. However, I would prefer to run Snow Leopard. Are there any ways to install Snow Leopard on the new machine?

Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

I've just discovered a similar problem with my iPad 1 (iOS 4.3.3) when booted into SnowLeopard. Although the iPad is recognised and syncs fine with iTunes, it will not charge from the Mac mini (server) USB ports. There is no error for low power. If I plug the iPad into the keyboard hub, then I get a low power error, and sync also does not work.

When booted into Lion the iPad charges fine and under System Profiler it lists that it is getting Extra Operating Current of 1600 mA (in addition to the 500mA requested/available that are seen when booted in SL).

The hub in the Dell monitor works under SL for syncing, but also not for charging.

Any thoughts on this?

I just launched iMovie 9.0.4 fine - mac mini server (HD3000) with 8GB RAM (which boosts graphics memory allocation to 512MB, but I doubt this makes a difference).

NOTE: I don't see why this should make any difference at all, but for me, iMovie is actually present in my Lion user/partition, not in my SL partition. This is because I installed SL from the retail 10.6.3 DVD, which doesn't contain iLife. I did not migrate over my data/apps.

CORRECTION: It does charge when the iPad is asleep. Very slowly.

I have 8Gb too, so 512Mb assigned to the HD3000.

My Mini is the i5-2.3, so it's almost the same machine as yours.

I installed SL through a Mini Mid 2010 from a retail 10.6.3 DVD, then immediately updated to 10.6.8.

At the end of the 10.6.8 combo update, during the black screen before the reboot, I powered off the Mid 2010 and started SL from my Mini. Then I installed the kexts. Also the 2012 security patch.

I tried to boot in 32bit and 64bit mode. Always the same error message for iMovie.

I will try to boot in Lion and install iMovie in that partition, then launch iMovie as you did, in SL from the Lion partition.

ZX I tried, no chance. Still "Quartz Extreme needed"... :-(

Are you sure all the kexts have installed themselves correctly?

Test Geekbecnh to see what score you get (it shoudl be the same as or slightly higher than in Lion).

Also, what monitor are you running? For me, the kexts were necessary to get resolution above 1920x1080 out of the mDP.

The only other difference is that I have not installed the 2012 security update.

Just a thought: Did you MOVE iMovie from the Lion partition? I did not. It still resides in the Lion HD (which mounts under SL as a second disk). When I use spotlight to search for iMovie, it finds that copy and launches it. Again, I really doubt the location of iMovie makes any difference, but who knows.

I'm sorry ZX! It was my fault!

Everything works fine! :-)

This morning I started the Mini, then I unplugged the display power cable. Then during the day I restarted some times OSX.

And in system profiler, graphics/monitor section, I noticed that graphic card was listed, but no display was detected and listed: I think that in this case Quartz Extreme is disabled.

This evening I plugged the display and restarted OSX, the display is now listed, and iMovie starts correctly.

I need to unplug the display power because I have an old 22" Apple Cinema Display with the old ADP port (but it still works, image is still bright and almost perfect ;-) so I want to keep until it explodes! ;-) And I have an Apple active ADP to DVI converter. The DVI is then connected to the Mini with the included HDMI-DVI adapter. Actually I'm not able to power off this display, not even with the touch button on the display chassis. So when I'm away from home and I want to remote control the Mini, I don't want the display on all day, I know the monitor stops after some minutes, but I want it always off to keep it the safest as possible.
I thank you so much for your help!

And very good work guys! :-)
