Can I install Snow Leopard on the new Mac Mini

I would like to upgrade from my Mac Mini 2009 (2.26 Ghz with Snow Leopard) to the new Mac Mini just released which will come with Lion. However, I would prefer to run Snow Leopard. Are there any ways to install Snow Leopard on the new machine?

For those of you using a USB dongle mouse to avoid the 'bluetooth mouse losing connectivity' issues, do you still have the extensive mouse preferences that you would if you were using the built in bluetooth in the mini?

When using a bluetooth dongle to use my bluetooh magic mouse, I am not losing conectivity like I was with the built in bluetooth but now under mouse preferences, I only get a tracking speed option instead of all of the other mouse preferences such as: double click speed, right click, scrolling speed, etc.

Anybody?

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this question and everyone's help in figuring out the answer...

In my own case I was able to use SuperDuper to clone a copy of OS X 10.6.8 off a 2010 MacMini (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo w/ NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor) onto a 2011 MacMini (2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 w/ AMD Radeon HD 6630M)

FYI used "Drive Genius 3" to create a dual boot Mac with Lion and Snow Leopard

www.prosofteng.com/blog/using-drive-genius-3-to-repartition-your-drive-and-insta ll-lion-to-create-a-dual-boot-mac/

Notes to see if the system was optimized followed suggestion to use "geekbench" to measue system performance

2337 score (early 2010 mac mini w/ os x 10.6.8 build 10k549)

using "super duper"

1868 score (mid 2011 mac mini w/ os x 10.6.8 build 10k549)

note that as others have found, there is a performance hit because the various drivers were not optimized! the solution as found by "newfoundglory" did the trick!! after applying

the "geekbench" improved!!!

6168 score (mid 2011 mac mini w/ os x 10.6.8 build 10k549

Hi jovibe,

I use simply C at startup. My external DVD Writer is Samsung SE-S084 (MAC compatible).

When I was on Lion system I applied all firmware updates.

For the future, when you install the SL system change DVD Writer’s status from external to internal (for DVD Pleer). For this you need replace DVDPlayback.framework file by http://www.mediafire.com/?nz50tmnzznn

Destination path is /System/Library/Frameworks/DVDPlayback.framework/Versions/A/DVDPlayback.

I'm having an issue with a 2012 MacMini. I have sent out a 2010 MacMini Server for new hard drives. I need to set up a temporary server running SL Server. I've built a Universal Installer that will boot to my MacBook Pro but will not boot the 2012 MacMini server. Any ideas? I'm about to return the rented MacMini and tell my client they will have to wait for the rebuild on their unit. By the way, where do I find the connection for NewFoundGlory? I think that is the script I used manually to build the SL Server Universal.

newfoundglory:

I have spent 4 hours at the Genius Bar in New York City with the Apple server guru in New York and he said not to upgrade beyond Snow Leopard Server because of the changes in the admin maintenance routines. He said that Moutain Lion is not ready for prime time. They are forcing administrative tasks to the Terminal making it more difficult to service the OS. I am not the only admin in the world who is unhappy by the restrictions Apple has placed on the new server OS. I can build a generic server installer for 10.6.8 that works with on 2011 machines but will not work on 2012 machines. I want to know if there is a way of modifying the installer so that SL works on the new mac mini servers.

Thank you very much, Roy. It is very helpful. Now the SL runnig well on my mid 2011 mini server!

Steps:

1. Backup your 10.6.8 with the time machine using a portable HD.

2. Insert a bootable 10.6 version DVD in your other Mac computer. Plug your time machine HD to your othe Mac.Connect your mini and other Mac with a firewire 800 cable. Then set the mini as the Target Disk Mode. Restart mini.

3. Start your other Mac, Press option when the bell sounds.

4. Select the 10.6DVD

5.Waiting until the languages selection appears, choose your language.

6.After you get into the installer, just select Recovered from Time Machine. You should choose the correct mini HD, the yellow colored with a sign of firewire.

7.RECOVERY is in process. As for me, 200GB files took me 2.5 hrs to recover.

8.After the recovery completed, restart your other Mac, press option and select the disk which contains the recovered system. And boot.

9. Copy the necessary kexts and plists files to the desktop which introduced by David Amis in page 27. And follow the steps introduced to add & replace files.

10. Then, a NFG kexts is necessary to insure your best performance on a mini server i7 2.0Ghz qual-core.

11. Enjoy it!

By the way, I connect my Dell U2412m to the HDMI port and it works perfect!

Awesome That worked great.

So, if anybody wants to know, you CAN install snow leopard without another mac, and its quite easy.

Create a universal installer uisng the information here:

http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120123175902871

I did that. it was pretty simple, considering this is my first mac. I've been a PC guy, ut use macs everyday at work, but only on a user level.

I now have a modified 10.6.7

after that I ran the combo update on Apples site.

then after getting the NFG installer, my Geekbench went from aroudn 3500 back up to around 9600 where ti belongs.

I installed a new hard drive in the 2.7 GHz dual-core 2011 mini so I thought this a good time to re-install the NFG-customized SL.

I installed 10.6.3 (I think it was) from DVD, then the 10.6.8 combo updater (via Software Update), then the NFG installer package.

I have not yet migrated any files from the old boot drive -- waiting till everything works right.

I'm not clear on one point I read here: should I apply the 10.6.8 update a 2nd time? If so, at which step in the install process?

My best Geekbench (64-bit) score is 7672.

I'm having a display issue: maximum video resolution (in Sys Prefs) is 1600x900 -- in Lion higher resolutions are available. (This was not resolved in the previous NFG-SL install on the old boot drive, either.)

Thanks,

iX

I have an mac mini server late 2009 with running 10.6.8 Mac OSX Server.
Now i bought an new mac mini late 2012 with intel hd4000 and usb3. I read this thread here and hope this will also work with the new mac mini. Could it be a problem with the new hardware and the performance of the usb3?
Where can I get the drivers for the new hardware? Can I find them in the the library of Mountain Lion?
