Q: Can I install Snow Leopard on the new Mac Mini

I would like to upgrade from my Mac Mini 2009 (2.26 Ghz with Snow Leopard) to the new Mac Mini just released which will come with Lion. However, I would prefer to run Snow Leopard. Are there any ways to install Snow Leopard on the new machine?

Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

    Hi yamshanovevgeny,

can you please tell me how you booted from the modified 10.6.7 installer...I tried C and Alt at startup but they don't seem to work. I do not have access to another computer and this is my only option.

    Thank You.

    Hi jovibe,

I use simply C at startup. My external DVD Writer is Samsung  SE-S084 (MAC compatible).

When I was on Lion system I applied all firmware updates.

For the future, when you install the  SL system change DVD Writer’s status from external to internal (for DVD Pleer). For this you need replace DVDPlayback.framework file by http://www.mediafire.com/?nz50tmnzznn

    Destination path is  /System/Library/Frameworks/DVDPlayback.framework/Versions/A/DVDPlayback.

I'm having an issue with a 2012 MacMini.  I have sent out a 2010 MacMini Server for new hard drives. I need to set up a temporary server running SL Server.  I've built a Universal Installer that will boot to my MacBook Pro but will not boot the 2012 MacMini server.  Any ideas?  I'm about to return the rented MacMini and tell my client they will have to wait for the rebuild on their unit.  By the way, where do I find the connection for NewFoundGlory?  I think that is the script I used manually to build the SL Server Universal.

I can't believe this thread is still going?

What are we going to do when the rumoured late-2012 Mac mini arrives?

Its not going to run Snow Leopard, you know

    newfoundglory:

I have spent 4 hours at the Genius Bar in New York City with the Apple server guru in New York and he said not to upgrade beyond Snow Leopard Server because of the changes in the admin maintenance routines.  He said that Moutain Lion is not ready for prime time.  They are forcing administrative tasks to the Terminal making it more difficult to service the OS.  I am not the only admin in the world who is unhappy by the restrictions Apple has placed on the new server OS.  I can build a generic server installer for 10.6.8 that works with on 2011 machines but will not work on 2012 machines.  I want to know if there is a way of modifying the installer so that SL works on the new mac mini servers.

What is the 'model identifier' for the system you are trying to install SL on?

I returned the unit yesterday.  Here is the information that is on the receipt:  Mac mini/2GB RAM/ 500GB HD/Airport/Bluetooth   SC07GKA2HDJD0.  I'm not sure if there are zeros or O's in the serial number.  The characters look almost identical in the receipt.  I wish the US would adopt the slash zero character.

Apple registration numbers and Apple hardware product serial numbers may sometimes contain the number "0" (zero), but not the letter "O"

Thank you very much, Roy. It is very helpful. Now the SL runnig well on my mid 2011 mini server!

    Steps:

    1. Backup your 10.6.8 with the time machine using a portable HD.

    2. Insert a bootable 10.6 version DVD in your other Mac computer. Plug your time machine HD to your othe Mac.Connect your mini and other Mac with a firewire 800 cable. Then set the mini as the Target Disk Mode. Restart mini.

    3. Start your other Mac, Press option when the bell sounds.

    4. Select the 10.6DVD

5.Waiting until the languages selection appears, choose your language.

6.After you get into the installer, just select Recovered from Time Machine. You should choose the correct mini HD, the yellow colored with a sign of firewire.

7.RECOVERY is in process. As for me, 200GB files took me 2.5 hrs to recover.

8.After the recovery completed, restart your other Mac, press option and select the disk which contains the recovered system. And boot.

    9. Copy the necessary kexts and plists files to the desktop which introduced by David Amis in page 27. And follow the steps introduced to add & replace files.

    10. Then, a NFG kexts is necessary to insure your best performance on a mini server i7 2.0Ghz qual-core.

    11. Enjoy it!

By the way, I connect my Dell U2412m to the HDMI port and it works perfect!
