OS X Lion freezes at login screen + App Store is slow

I installed OS X Lion in my Mac Book Pro (Mid 2010) and have two issues:

- Login screen freezes sometimes. "Colored rotating disc" appears, text cursor stops blinking and I can not do anything; I can not click anywere, I can not enter my user name/password... Only option is to hard-reboot the computer, which is not a pleasant thing to do.

- App Store is very slow. It takes about 30 seconds of "rotating colored disc thinking" every time a page has to be loaded!

I first installed OS X Lion via Mac App Store and login screen freezes happened about 50% or more of the times I turned on the computer! Also random freezes happened during computer work. Computer was almost unusable under these circumstances, so I reinstalled OS X Lion by doing a clean install (from DVD). After this clean install everithing seemed to run smoothly at first, but now login screen freezes happen again and Mac App Store is very slow as I explained.

I did not have any of these problems with Snow Leopard. I have checked permissions, and I have not installed too many apps yet.

Anybody with these same issues? Any idea of a solution? Somebody at Apple working to solve these problems?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Yep, I have exactly the same problem on my MBP.

In fact, 1 in 2 logins are unsuccessful and the whirling disk of death continues indefinitely, unless I hard reboot the computer. After two hard reboots, it asks at login whether I want to reopen the same programmes as before (Resume, I presume). If I say no, then startup is not a problem.

What I have started to do is to disable Resume at startup by unchecking the box that says something like, "Do you want to re-open current applications on startup" when I shut down. With this strategy, startup works without a problem. I haven't tried the graphic switching thing above yet.

I'm sure many people are having this problem, so why didn't apple fix this bug in last week's software update for Lion?

Apple, please fix this problem...we know you're out there and listening to us...

I have the same spinning wheel freezing up problem with my MacBook Pro 15" mid 2010 i7. I took it a certified Apple repair place in which they erased the hard drive & re-installed Lion which did not fix it. They then replaced the logic board in it twice (yep twice) which still did not fix it. The MBP was then sent into Apple where they replaced the main logic board a third time, also replaced the hard drive, and then installed Snow Leopard on it before giving it back to me. Guess what, to my surprise it no longer froze up (my eyes rolling backwards right about then). So I then installed Lion back on it only to get the spinning wheel freezing up problem again. Thanks for nothing Apple. 10.7.1 did not work for me either. But thanks to the suggestions in this forum of disabling the switchable graphics which has worked for me.
