OS X Lion freezes at login screen + App Store is slow

I'm having the same issue. It occurs every once in a while for me (average 1/3 boots) At first I thought this was because I'm using an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD instead of an Apple Supported hard drive. Did you customize the hardware in your mac in anyway? If so let me know, so we can debug this together.

I am also having the problem of freezing login screen. so guys if anyone knew the solution plz help me.

I was told to try disabling Automatic graphics switching, and that would stop the freezing at the login screen. I haven't tested it yet. On laptops this will always use the better graphics card though, so battery life will decrease (by how much I don't know)

System Preferences > Energy Saver > (uncheck) Automatic Graphics Switching (it's at the top of the settings pane)

I'll post my results after testing a few reboots when I get home.

With a Mac Pro and two screens, and fast user switching selected, I get a Login Screen freeze with Lion about 1 out of 3 times I am at the Login Screen.

The system is still running as I can ssh into it, but nothing accessible from the screen monitor.

Login screen freezes . "Colored rotating disc" appears, text cursor stops blinking and I can not do anything;

same issue so .anybody from apple support help us . because i start hit this lion !😠

I am also having the same issue with a mid 2010 Macbook Pro. If I don't login within 10 seconds I get the spinning ball. Also, if I resume from "Sleep" I get it every time, forcing a reboot. Will try disabling Automatic Graphics switching. In the interim, as this issue is being widely reported can Apple Support please provide some feedback ?

Disabling the graphics switching seemed to have worked for me. I'm gonna try it a bunch of times to see what happens. Also gonna test out the full disk encryption with my OCZ SSD

I have the same issue with my MBP 2010 i5 2.53 with 8 GB RAM. Have disabled all startup objects, which helped a bit to improve startup speed. Will now try disabling graphics switching, but i hope for an Lion Update, that fixes this problem completely.

I have the same issue, it looks like the "Colored rotating disc" only appear if you click on the mouse

I have tried not to do anything but just type in my password, and it was able to login to to desktop.

I have submited is bug to the feedback, hopefully the apple support people will come up a solusion

I'm having the same issue with the App Store on a 27" iMac i7 with 250GB SSD and 8GB RAM (Mid 2010). It takes much more time to download the start screen in Lion than it did in Snow Leopard and I often see the BBOD (Beach Ball of Death) or as some refers to as the "Colored rotating disc".

My ISP speed is 100 Mbit so that should not be the problem.

Disabling graphic switching solved my issue too now.

I think we need a Patch for Lion for MBP users. Hope Apple delivers this fast.

Although i still have deactivated switching graphics in energy presets. :-(((

I have the same issue with my MBP 2010 i7 2.66 with 8 GB RAM, SSD 256GB Crucial C300...can't log in... the colored rotating disk appear and it freezes my loptop...restart and is working...look like I need to restart twice to be able to log in...????
