Dear all
I guess this is not new: my daughter forgot about her iPad (-1) access code. To unlock the iPad with the approach found via google at http://www.videoconverteripad.com/ipad-tutorial/unlock-ipad-passcode.html doesn't work since the locked iPad doesn't connect to iTunes. I welcome your appreciated help! Thanks!

The device must be restored from the computer it was last synced with.

Have you tried putting the iPad into recovery mode (DFU)? See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Thanks Carolyn! tried this but it won't work. The originally used sync computer is in Barcelona and we are now in Luxembourg 🙂. Hence I downloaded today the newest version of iTunes to my computer. However whenever I connect the ipad to it after running the restoring process on the ipad (press home and side button for 10 sec until apple logo appears) the get the same pop-up window on iTunes saying that "iTunes can't connect to the locked iPad until you enter the access code"........ 😟

See answer to Carolyn. according to apple support there are only 3 options left after this: 1 )iPad user community, 2) mac genius at your next apple store?, 3) apple express support line help desk after you purchased oral support time!

The only way to unlock it is to connect it to the same computer you originally synced it with. Its a security method to make sure stolen ipads cant just be wiped and sold.
The next option is to make your daughter think really hard about what she set it to and then maybe not use it again.

If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
