Internet really slow after upgrading to Lion from Leopard!

Yesterday I upgraded to Lion from Leopard on my 2007 iMac (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), and everything seems to be running very smooth, except the internet is painfully slow! I know it is not an ISP or network issue because the internet on my iPad is running fast as ever on the same network.

Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

Is there someone on this thread who can help in non technical language? I dont understand the solutions, im a very basic user.

Its also about the ridiculously slow internet after installing lion (my computer is almost new, only ran a few days on snow leopard and was fine and became really slow when i installed lion 3 months ago or so). it also takes a REALLY long time to turn on, which was never a problem with leopard.

Please help in lay terms! thannnxxxx

I had terrible problems with my internet connection on only some comptuers all running Snow Leopard then Lion. I had a LinkSysy router between my cable modem and my computers. Having read multple accounts of LinkSysy problems and Macs, I compeltely reconfigured my home network to be Apple Airport only. I have not had ANY problems with network speed since. So . .. . if you do have a LinkSys/Cisco router, or possibly some other brand, anywhre in your home network, try going Apple only and see if it helps. There is a problem, in some cases, with the way the LinkSys routers filter DNS requests and may be blocking a Mac whose behavior may appear as a potential attack to the LinkSysy router.

Ok, ok, lots of different, pretty much experimental, handcrafted solutions...

This is total rubbish to me!

I am not an I.T. engineer and I don't want to call one.

Actually I DO NOT WANT ANY PROBLEM TO SOLVE, that's why I have a mac.

Don't get used to solve problem, rather write to Apple they are doing **** and tell them we leave if they don't change this trend.

Actually, talking about Apple's iToy's. Since they launched iOS5, I and many many many many others have had endless problems with bluetooth. I have an iPhone 4, infact my iPhone 4 now feels like it's full of Windows bloatware since the update.

So Apple have been nothing if consistent, updating their software, giving you new features, but breaking other features and absolutely killing performance.

My 2010 top end MacBook Pro 15" with 2.66chz dual core i7 since the Lion update, performs more like a Pentium 3 300mhz machine! The hard drive is buffered and hammered so much it cannot handle email and browsing the web at the same time!

In fact because of Apple's useless quality control, I have decided to never buy another Mac, I WAS going to going to get next years model. But now I'm just going to keep what I have, maybe upgrade it or got back to Snow Leopard.

These day's Apple is far more interested in suing everyone it seems for making a square tablet computer..... 😠

Apolloa - I'm afraid your experience doesn't represent the vast majority of users. It's a shame you have developed such a negative view on Apple without seeing the bigger picture. Yes, there are definitely technical challenges as technology has advanced at such a quick pace, but Apple has maintained a very top-performing lineup of products in the grand scheme. You can't deny that. I'm sure they won't miss you as a customer, though.

I have read endless articles about poor perfomcne after Lion, so I can state the same as you that many people HAVE had issues.

And I also don't consider having TWO MacBook Pro laptops with finger prints marks BEHIND the screen as top performing, I just see it as very poor quality control. That was a known issue too, as has ben yellow tinging iMac screens.

You can defend Apple sure, but over the last few years the quality of there products has dropped in certain areas.

And Apple won't miss my money eh? So is that YOUR view or do you consider yourself to be a representative of Apple? They don't want money from users who expect a product costing several times more then the PC equivalent to work properly or have no finger prints behind a screen?

If you are looking for help, this is a great forum. If you've just come here to vent, you're going to get responses like mine. I don't feel for you at all. I've seen and heard endless reports about dead pixels, for example, but I've never had an LCD screen from Apple with dead pixels. So either my experience or your experience is not representative of Apple's quality control. Can't have it both ways.

Macs don't cost "several times more" than the PC equivalent. That's a myth, but it's clear that that's how you see it, so you feel you're paying a premium and should be getting perfection.

(and that's the first time I've heard of fingerprints behind the screen, did you happen to get both from the same place?)

I found the solution. I enter my router settings and in firewall options turned off ( unchecked ) IP Flood Detection . Really tried with it or without it and that seems to be the problem. I hope that this post will be seen by APPLE and will be fixxed in another update so i don't have to turn that off. Hope it's nothing dangerous turning it off.

You exactly summerise why many hate Apple, arrogance. Cult of Mac, Apple can never do any wrong in my eyes. You need to realise people do have problems with Apple devices, it's a fact. Weather you have'nt doesn't change that so you should be more sensible to people who want to vent. Especially when they have something that worked fine until Apple broke it!

Nov 30, 2011 2:10 PM in response to apolloa69

@apolloa,

My post wasn't an example of arrogance, although I'm not saying that it doesn't exist. It exists with any company that has a passionate following. What I'm highlighting is that you seem to think that because _you_ have a problem, that _most_ people are experiencing the same thing. That's not the case, by a long shot. You inspired me to participate in this post because of your ultimatum... that you would never buy another Apple product. That's fine, but what were you hoping to really say? If you're unhappy with Apple, you're not going to accomplish much by coming to a "user forum" and venting. This forum is not Apple, it's the Apple community. The community isn't responsible for Apple's performance in the design and manufacturing of their products. We're here to help, if you are open to receiving some.

Apple broke NOTHING. YOU loaded Lion. YOU are the one that's more interested in venting than in solving your issues.
