Mouse pointer disappears on second monitor.

After updating to Lion my mouse pointer will sometimes disappear on my second monitor. If I move it back to my primary monitor is will return. Doesn't happen with any regular occurrence, seems pretty random. Thoughts?

******************** I HAVE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM (at least for me) ********************

Ok so I literally just "fixed" it accidentally while working on another tip from another thread.

Going into System Preferences --> Accessibility --> Display, I increased the "Cursor size" and tada! Now it shows up on all screens.

Interestingly/bizarrely, playing around with this feature, it only worked once the Cursor size got about 2/3 between "Normal" and the first tick to the right. Any smaller and it disappears again. This seems strangely arbitrary and I can't figure out why this works. I would think maybe it has something to do with relative resolutions of the monitors but that wouldn't explain why it displays fine on the second, mirrored, monitor.

Hope this helps someone else!

10.7.3 didn't fix it for me either. Every time I update the system, I have a small spark of hope only to be let down again.

BTW: I use my main 24" monitor for my CAD drawing window and the second 24" montir holds the many paletts of tools and resources (filling about 2/3 of the screen). Because of this, I'm constantly moving the cursor between the two monitors. It's VERY frustrating to have this problem constantly interupting my work.

Hello All,

I'm having the same problem. I notice if I vigorously click and move the mouse around it will reappear. NOT CoOL! I've looked on some different forum and seen where this problem has been accruing since 2008. For me it has not been any particular application the mouse will disappear, but I did fist notice it in FCPX. It does look like they don't care to resolve this If this problem has truly been around since 2008. I hope to be made wrong. ;-).

Same problem, BUT, I've noticed if I leave a usb mouse and keyboard plugged in, my bluetooth magic track-pad works fine (cursor doesn't disappear, pad doesn't randomly disconnect) and the bluetooth keyboard stays connected vs. its usual random disconnectedness. The magic mouse however continues to drop out whenever it feels like it and when connected, behaves erratically at best.

This has been such a pain.

Hi Jowie,

As dlbogdan mentioned earlier, moving the cursor to the dock makes it reappear. Does that not work for you?

I hope Apple does somthing about this. It's very surprising to me that this problem has not been adressed. This happens to me several times a day interupting my workflow and causing frustration. It's very unlike Apple to let such an important interface issue persist.

I know how to REPRODUCE this issue. I have a Chrome window open on my laptop screen, maximized to the max. On my external monitor I have a non-maximized Terminal window open. If I focus on the Chrome window, then focus on the Terminal window and start scrolling up and down for a bit, then move the mouse back to my laptop monitor, the mouse cursor will disappear and I will have to do a click in order to get the mouse cursor back.

I can't reproduce it this way 100% of the time, but there are periods of a few minutes when this behaviour does happen consistently.

I get this all the time. Sometimes randomly, others are reproducable.

I can reproduce it every time by playing a movie in iTunes in fullscreen mode. The second fullscreen is activated, the mouse disappears (making it near impossible to access the hover controls at the bottom of the movie). After exiting fullscreen, the mouse does not return until I command+tab(hold) and move the mouse while the app icons are up on the screen.

It's ridiculous this hasn't been fixed yet.

We've been seeing this for some time now and can confirm that it does remain unfixed in the 10.7.4 update. Apple... I don't know about you but having a cursor is fundamental and vital to working on a desktop. During the course of an average work day, it disappears approximately a dozen times. We reset it by clicking on the secondary display and voila... it's back.

Perhaps you can address this immediately as it is affecting many of your users on a daily basis?!
