File a bug report, may be useful to them. They cannot test all possible combinations mac + monitor / projector + mouse.

    Done it yesterday.

I've created a much better mouse pointer (it looks almost identical to the real one).

Sadly I can't edit my "workaround" post here

    Here it is :

Remember to save it as MouseLocator.png in the root of your Pictures folder.

To those calling this a "small" bug, I think not!  Especially by Apple standards, this should be considered a MAJOR bug.  For a company that wrote the book on user interfaces, the cursore vanishing a not a minor issue and users should not be expected to deal with this.  This problem has plagued me ever since moving to Lion and happens 2 - 4 times every hour.  This is a major problem (not a minor annoyance) since my workday is spent on my computer constantly neededing to moving between 2 monitors.  I'm very suprised that Apple still has no fix for this.

I agree, mai be labelled a ‘major bug’. What mouse do you use? wired or wl? if wl, is it BT or dongle wl connection? have you tested another mouse, just for the sake of comparison? what monitor do you use? etc.

    Hello Cattus,

I'm using a Wacom Intous 3 tablet with the mouse in "pen mode".  I think have seen this problem with a wired Apple mouse, but I'm not certain.  I only use a regular mouse in an emergency (where the tablet stops working).  I cannot bear using them otherwise.  My hardware specs:

         Early 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 Quad Core

ATI Radeon HD 5770 HD w/ 1024 VRAM

         2 - 24" Samsung Syncmaster dusplays w/ 1920 x 1200 resolution

I'd love to find a fix for this as it constantly disrupts my workflow decreasing productivity.

I think it is a compatibility issue between your hardware components, therefore you should report to Apple Bug Reporter. I have been currently using an external monitor associated with my Macbook over the last years, and have NEVER seen this problem, so—

Of course, it is unpleasant for those who use this, therefore useful to report.

This is not a mouse problem, it is a graphical glitch. Check out my temporary fix until Apple gets off their ***** and fixes this (as they should have done so BEFORE the 10.7.0 release in my opinion)

I agree with you dlbogdan.  I heard from several other users with completely different hardware having the same problem.  It NEVER happend before Lion.

Thank you for your clever MouseLocator fix - it's a great idea.  Unfortunately, I rely heavily on cursor cues in my CAD software for snapping.  I cannot give those up so I'll have to deal with this problem and pray that Apple does something about this soon.

I agree, this is very irritating at times when using Gimp and switching between screens.  Seeing the way Apple hosed those with dual monitors with their full screen effect in Lion, I am sure it won't be fixed soon.  By the way I forgot to update that 10.7.3 didn't fix it for me.

  • PanzerCAD Level 1 (0 points)

10.7.3 didn't fix it for me either.  Every time I update the system, I have a small spark of hope only to be let down again.

BTW:  I use my main 24" monitor for my CAD drawing window and the second 24" montir holds the many paletts of tools and resources (filling about 2/3 of the screen).  Because of this, I'm constantly moving the cursor between the two monitors.  It's VERY frustrating to have this problem constantly interupting my work.

I have the same issue. This is an issue for a while now. I really wish they would fix it, its driving me nuts.

    Hello All,

I'm having the same problem.  I notice if I vigorously click and move the mouse around it will reappear.  NOT CoOL!  I've looked on some different forum and seen where this problem has been accruing since 2008. For me it has not been any particular application the mouse will disappear, but I did fist notice it in FCPX.  It does look like they don't care to resolve this If this problem has truly been around since 2008.  I hope to be made wrong.  ;-).

Looking to debunk any ideas that this bug is linked to either multiple displays, external hardware (mouse or trackpad), etc. I have a brand new MacBook Air (purchased March 12. 2012) running Lion 10.7.3 and I also encounter the "Invisible Mouse" as I've started to refer to it.

While I frequently have Netflix running in a secondary window, this does not have to be the scenario for the "Invisible Mouse" to go into stealth mode. Typically, I do the frustrated-idiot maneuver of swirling my pointer around on the screen until it returns, but I can't be sure this has any real effect on its eventual return.

The pointer is still "active," in that, I see it highlighting Menu leads to choose for drop down. I can also click on those Menu leads for drop down options or anything else.
I have attempted to use my wireless magic mouse and it occurs just as often - maybe more? or maybe I use the keyboard less inadvertently so it only feels like more often.

    So, in summary:

    • Brand New MacBook Air
    • 1TB Network HD for Large Software & FileSources
    • 500GB WD Passport for on-the-go use (less relevant, just an additional note)
    • Running Lion 10.7.3
    • No external displays for my MacBook Air (occasional AirDisplay use with iPad2 & now new iPad, 0 relation to occurrence of pointer disappearances.)

    • My pointer disappears with or without a video player running (& yes for Netflix, I have to use SilverLight)
    • My pointer disappears with or without my wireless magic mouse in use
    • Installed, but not always in use - (in fact, rarely in use the last few weeks) - Wacom Creation Tablet, PSE, Sandvox, and MacFlux.
    • I swirl like an idiot to acquiesce my frustration and during that time the pointer returns. But I can't imagine it actually contributes to the pointer returning.

Yes! I agree that it has something to do with Silverlight/Netflix. It also happens to me when editing my blog within the Shortcode Exec PHP panel. When I click in the shortcode editor, I frequenly lose the mouse pointer for all of my screens. To get it back, I have to click on the upper OSX menu bar at the top of the main screen.

Same problem, BUT, I've noticed if I leave a usb mouse and keyboard plugged in, my bluetooth magic track-pad works fine (cursor doesn't disappear, pad doesn't randomly disconnect) and the bluetooth keyboard stays connected vs. its usual random disconnectedness. The magic mouse however continues to drop out whenever it feels like it and when connected, behaves erratically at best.

This has been such a pain.
