Why put a handle on the iMac box if it won't actually help carry the device?

I am probably missing something but my new 27" iMac's box doesn't seem able to be secured such that I can actually use the handle on it to carry the machine. It would not be convenient to take it to an Apple Store or, in my case, to work to use the broadband to upgrade to Lion. Can someone enlighten me as to how to make it work or do i have to get some straps for a very inelegant soultion to transportation of my computer?

I bought this computer in June '11 so I assume that this is the most current box.
