AHT error: 4MEM/62/40000000: 0x84774418

2011 MacBook Pro

OS X 10.6.8

8 GB Crucial RAM (upgraded myself)

128 GB Crucial M4 SSD (upgraded myself)

It's funny how I even got here because my MBP is running just fine but I am a new Mac user and wanted to try the AHT for the heck of it. Well, at first pass I chose the quick option and received no errors. Then I decided to run the extended testing and this error came up after 10 minutes and 51 seconds:

4MEM/62/40000000: 0x84774418

I rebooted and ran the extended test a second time and received the same error.

I searched the forums and came to the conclusion that it is a RAM issue however this does not make sense to me because my MBP works just fine and I have had no errors whatsoever...

I am going to remove and reinstall the RAM and re-run the extended test. If I still get this error should I return my memory sticks? I purchased them from www.priceguidenetwork.com.

Thanks,

Nick

Update:

I removed the upper RAM stick (leaving the top slot empty) and re-ran the extended test with no errors. I then moved this good RAM chip to the top slot (leaving the bottom slot empty) and re-ran the extended test with no errors.

I put the untested RAM stick in the lower slot (leaving the top slot empty) and re-ran the extended test with no errors. I then moved this RAM chip to the top slot (leaving the bottom slot empty) and re-ran the extended test with no errors.

I reinstalled both RAM chips and re-ran the extended test and received thefollowing error again after 11 min. 13 seconds: 4MEM/62/40000000: 0x84773418

Odd... both RAM sticks individually tested with no errors but together they produce an error. What does this mean and what should I do about it? Is this anything to even be concerned about?

Thanks,

Nick

I emailed Crucial about this RAM issue and wanted to follow up on the Apple forumns in case if anyone else runs into this error. Crucial's response:

Thank you for contacting us. Please run Rember which is a Mac OS X memory diagnostic tool. See if this also comes up with an error when both sticks are in stalled. If it does than I would suggest replacing both the sticks and seeing if the error is still there. If it is still there than it is an issue with the memory controller on the motherboard. Have a great day.

I know this is a while ago but I thought it should be helpful for some.

I had problems with my MBP 15 inch (2010), where the screen would just go black and I would have to power on and off. Sent to the Apple Geniuses but test came back all fine except for the AHT test which gave a similar error of:

4MEM/62/40000000: 0x85630e98

What one informed genius mentioned that it's probably a red herring and to tell me that the RAM is 3rd Party and not Apple RAM. Which explains as my RAM is 8GB (4GB x 2) Kingston RAM.

So maybe this would give you some clues as to why AHT is giving you that error.

In the end, on my approval they did a fresh wipe and install. Gonna see if that will solve my problem.
