DigitalColor Meter in 10.7 is essentially useless -- not sure why Apple decided to criple its functionality, but no big deal. Does anyone know of a good alternative? In 10.6 I used DigitalColor Meter fairly heavily while doing webdev; could really use some sort of alternative.

I just discovered that Apple now offers a "Classic Color Meter" app in the App Store for 99 cents. It is the same as the old DigitalColor Meter, but renamed and now cost extra, but it works.
One more option. . .I just discovered "mColorMeter" in the App Store for $2.99. It works much better than either the DIgitalColor Meter or the ClassicColor Meter. It allows you to copy the Hex code with a keystroke so that you can paste it into your design easily.
Thanks PastorWynn. I tried the first tool, the Classic Color Meter and it warmed my heart. For 99c I can't ask for much more. It's got copy to clipboard like the old one with the keyboard shortcut shift+cmd+c. Good find, cheers!

Hi all! I'm the developer of Classic Color Meter. Thanks for talking about (and buying, much appreciated!) my app 🙂
I just wanted to mention:
1) The only DCM features that I haven’t implemented are “Click in swatch copies color to clipboard” and “Drag in swatch drags out the color”. I couldn’t find any actual use cases for either of these. If you need them, let me know and I’ll add them.
2) CIE 1931 / CIE 1976 / CIE Lab* / and Tristimulus values are slightly different from Snow Leopard’s version. This is due to SL’s DCM.app using 32-bit Carbon APIs (ancient and deprecated). Classic Color Meter uses the newer ColorSync APIs from 10.5 Leopard.

I noticed that mColorMeter added the ability to use the arrow keys to bump the cursor up and down by 1 pixel, do you suppose adding such functionality to your app would be possible?
That's a great idea! I just implemented it, and it will be in 1.1. I want to keep the out-of-box behavior as close to 10.6 DCM, so turning on arrow keys will be an option in Preferences.
Just to follow up – Classic Color Meter 1.1 is now available in the store and features arrow key support. Thanks again to jesse.jlt for the suggestion! 🙂
Sorry Jesse I don't know with which thing you worked but *my* colorimeter copied the expression with command shift c to the clipboard.
