domain name is duplicated...making it longer and redundant than necessary

This happened when I updated my domain name a few extra times with hosting by .mac. What to do to get it with just one?

Thanks

That's because you named your site the same as your domain name. The usual URL for CNAME domain name forwarding is www.domainname.com/site_name/page_name.html.

Change your site name to something descriptive of your offerings you will get rid of the double domain name in the URL.

Another way to get rid of the double domain name is to publish your site to a folder on the hard drive and uploaed just the contents of the site folder to your server. You will have to delete the existing site folder from the server beforehand and then upload just the contents. That will give you

for the first page. Then next page would be:

I was able to publish to my URL root directory by using iWeb to publish as usual, and then using the FTP file manager on my hosting site to move the files from the annoying "site name" subfolder over to the root. This works with the Go Daddy FTP File Manager. Other hosting sites may work in a similar manner.

Thought I would mention it for others using this thread, since iWeb's site name subfolder is probably annoying a lot of people. Either method should work.

That involves a lot of extra work I would suspect?

Why not just download Cyberduck and then publish your website from iWeb to a local folder and then use Cyberduck to upload directly to GoDaddy? All you need do is upload the contents of the site folder to your root folder at GoDaddy and you are done.

It's no extra work. Very quick and simple. Click "check all" and click Move. That's it. This approach may be easier for some than using a third party FTP after publishing to a local folder.

As for the convenience issue, it depends on the site. For my sites, the domain name is the name of the site. A subfolder is redundant.

I've had no problems with the links to One of My Pages.
