I have separate iWeb (sites2) files. iWeb opens the same one.
I have several sites2 files ( customer1.sites2...customer2.sites2 ) and so on. After upgrading to Lion, iWeb keeps opening the same one. I cannot get it to open another one. Any clues?

So, I have downloaded iWebSites and now all my websites are in there. No problem so far... But I click on ANY of the websites, but it still keeps opening the same one. It opens the last website where I have been working on, a couple of weeks ago. I am totally stumped!
Thought I better copy the files to my MacBook. Eh....same problem! Now I am sure that it has to do with the last iWeb update or with Lion. I can't open any of the files anymore, kinda spooky. Has worked perfectly for years for me. Nothing I have changed or anything. I am talking about some 40 files here. If my iMac and MacBook both have the same problem, surely there must be others????
Which of the the several domain-files is iWeb openening? The one that is currently in your Library?
Perhaps you could try install the domain-file you want to open in your Library, after saving the current one - just to see if the files at least can be opened from the Library.
Yes, I did that. Can I mention again that the only changes are the iWeb update (3.0.4) and I have upgraded to Lion. I have not moved any of those iweb files. Thanks for responding......
Do a search of this forum and there are other posts such as yours - it is know that following the upgrade to Lion that you can't open multiple domain files - Lion will only open one rather than the split domain files.
There is also a solution that has been posted under one of these topics.
Download the application that's on this page and run it instead of launching iWeb:iWeb Multi Domain.zip.
It gets around the one domain file problem in Lion.

Thanks Old Toad. That will do for now. It works! I just hope that the next Lion update will fix this? I still have a lot of 'pain' about the whole iWeb issue. I am still holding off, switching to something else. Basically because I would have to update all my customers files to another app. At who's cost? I know that iWeb won't stop working, but it won't get any updates either......sad, very sad...
But hey man...thanks for helping out!!
Thanks for the posts. I am going to try the multidomain file. Meanwhile ... you wrote

What is Apple going to do with iWeb? Drop it? Replace it?
I think my earlier optimism was for naught. I just read that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 but without iWeb or iDVD. That sounds like the last nail in the iWeb/iDVD coffin. 😢
Your idea of using the multi file worked great. Thanks.
Mac - it just works ... except when it doesn't.
I have been trying to switch from Dreamweaver (too hard for my tastes, but nice power) to iWeb (simple - but lacks power).
Now that I am in mid-switch, I wonder what to do. If they are dropping iWeb, then I am dead-ending my work.
Apple seems committed to a path of targeting sales to amateurs and teenagers.
They are making lots of money, and I suppose they are riding the crest of the age wave - so they will continue to be successful - but they will not capture the business market until they get serious software. But they probably don't care.
I hate to say it, but I may be looking at Windows again.
Well, you know.... Maybe I am just stubborn, but I am not giving up just yet. Why? Here's why: We are all eagerly waiting for the iCloud. We haven't seen a proper update for iWork either. To me it is possible that iWork is an integral part of iCloud. So I think that iWork and iCloud will come out pretty much at the same time.
Now, what about iWeb? Steve Jobs said that iWeb and MobileMe are history. But he didn't say that there won't be a replacement for these two items. There have been plenty of rumors about a totally re-written iWeb or iWeb Pro......or whatever it will be called.
Again, it would be likely that this would happen at the same time as the iCloud and iWork release times. The new (let's call it iWeb Pro) iWeb Pro would be working through the iCloud as well (whatever functionality).
Maybe wishful thinking.....but I think it is realistically possible.....don't you think?
I tried several other 'solutions' before the iWeb Multi Domain.zip. First I tried the 'hide' approach. Second I tried
com.apple.iWeb.plist_boolean.zip. Then, whatever I did to break iWeb, it now opens MULTIPLE files with lots of scary errors about missing files.
Third, I tried the above app but my iWeb remains broken.
Ideas or critique welcome.
'Happy' Harv
Lion on a MacBook
I want to thank Old Toad for posting the above solution. I created a website for our Tae Kwon Do class using iWeb, and I also have a personal web page for our family. I could only get one of the domains to open and I was freaking out - the link above works perfectly thank you SO MUCH!!!!
I just now upgraded to Lion and have experienced the exact same problem as Happy Harv. When I open iWeb it opens four iWeb Domain files AT ONCE! The Domain files are all in separate folders. Closing one quits the entire program resulting in a crash error.
I see this is a very old thread, did you ever find a solution to this?
