Why can't I copy/paste album art in latest version of iTunes?

I have the latest version of iTunes and I am unable to copy/paste album art from the internet. Whenever I try to copy/paste album art from Amazon, it just displays a blank box. I was able to copy/paste album art just fine before the last iTunes update. Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

I have found the solution!

I was in the same situation; I've got the latest iTunes. Such a simple solution. If you have multiple songs in an album and don't want to go through each one. Just do what you would do for the copy and paste for the whole album; Where you would copy and paste, double click the box and 'open' the album artwork you saved. Hey presto! Takes a bit longer than the copy and paste way - but at least you don't have to go through each individual song in the album!

Hope this helps. 🙂

Indeed, not being able to cut and paste liner notes is a bad thing.

Last itunes version this I could over come by using the command-V keyboard shortcut to paste into comments of get info when the menu item didn't work but now there is no joy there.

Regarding album art from web sites:

what works for me is to click and drag the art from the website direct to your desk top

then paste it into the get info album art slot.

I can't get any of my missing artwork to appear. I am using a new (Sept 2011) Macbook Pro and I've tried all the suggestions posted. I thought changing to jpegs was the answer as it worked for one, but failed to work for any of the others so I'm not sure what is going on with the artwork feature. All my music is from CD's. I have about 100 albums loaded and all but 5 or 6 have the artwork. It would be nice to be able to find a way to get the remaining few to show up.

I found it very annoying so I just back out to a earlier version and will stop auto updates, Not all artwork is availible in Itunes, and Amzon has most of them plus user's updated versions, I like using the full artwork screen and it helps to be able to just cut and paste. If and when apple decides to fix this I will update my software until than oh well.

I have the newest version of Itunes which has 150 albums. All but 20 of them have album artwork. I use widows XP. Until now, I have been downloading the artwork from the Itunes store. This will not work for the 20 albums that Itunes does not sell/have. Than I heard you could mannually add the artwork yourself. I began reading websites, posts, and forms such as this one which talk about the issue. I have tried ever method which have all failed. I tried adding them in the "get info" album artwork box. I tried adding it to the artwork box in the bottom left hand of the screen. I tried everything suggested on this form. Any ideas? I am wondering if it's the image file that itunes dosn't like or if it's the way I am copying the file.

I'm having the same problem. I just updated to iTunes 10.5.3.3. That appears to have fixed the problem for some albums, but it's still happening on most other albums. I highlight all the files in an album, right-click and Get Info. Then I paste the artwork and make sure it's checked. The art appears for a split second and disappears in that box, but I ignore that and click OK.

Then iTunes goes thru the updating of the files on my iPad. (Processing... Updating files... ) This process appears to work for some albums but not others.

If I Get Info for individual files in iTunes, the artwork appears. But if I highlight a whole album, there's no artwork, and the box is unchecked.

Running XPSP3 and iTunes 10.5.3.3.

I get the white box after pasting in an image to Get Info. Since it still adds the art I've not bothered to report it. One the lesser quirks of iTunes. 😝

When you do Get Info for a group of files the artwork box is never populated, but that doesn't mean the tracks don't have art. Make sure you have the Selected Item box in the lower let then select each track in turn. After selecting the first track you can use the cursor keys to quickly step through them.

You can also create a smart playlist with the rule Has artwork is false to easily pick up those tracks that need attention.

iTunes cannot add artwork to .wav files (so you could extend the rules of the smart playlist to exclude them).

Copy & paste from the web may fail with certain combinations of image type and browser. If in doubt save a local copy and insert that.

What does this even mean? I'm doing it the way I've always done it. I select all tracks in one album, right-click, Get Info, and drag an image called folder.jpg (local image, not from the web) on to the Artwork area and that checkbox to the left of there gets checked automatically:

It seriously could not be any simpler. When I Get Info on a single track, I see this:

So obviously the track HAS artwork, it just doesn't transfer to or update that artwork on the iPad. Obviously there is a bug in iTunes. I think it's been there since at least 10.5.

I'm not using any WAVs, it's all MP3s that I imported myself from my CDs using iTunes.

Also boxes get checked when you edit their contents. Boxes where each track has the same text or numeric value get prepopulated with that value. Blank boxes may be blank for all tracks, or different tracks may have different values. Boxes with drop down values may not be representative of all the selected tracks.

To check if all tracks have art....

Make sure you have the Selected Item box in the lower left then select each track in turn. After selecting the first track you can use the cursor keys to quickly step through them.

(I should have suggested that you are in the Album List view to do this.)

Track 1 has art...

Track 2 doesn't have art...

Stepping through Get Info with Next & Previous is another way, but probably not as quick.

All of which however is a side issue because I obviously didn't read your post properly. If your artwork isn't updating on the iPad then...

I have a completely untested & unconfirmed hypothesis that "something" changed in the last iOS update with the way iTunes keeps track of which items are on the device. My guess is that it has something to do with being able to identify the same track whether on the device, in your library or in the cloud. Whatever the cause I found I needed to manually delete a bunch of albums on my iPad that were showing as dupes or without artwork which didn't get resolved by syncing. Since I deleted them and resynced it has all been fine.

Try deleting all the music from the device, by unchecking the option to Sync Music, to see if you can clean out the media. Then add back what you want.

If all else fails backup and then restore the device.

Correction: it works now if I do BOTH things suggested here. That is, select all album tracks, then drag the jpg to the "Drag Artwork Here" square. Then I right-click all tracks and do Get Info, and drag the jpg into the artwork box. It's an extra step but at least it works.

Next problem: cannot change the album title once it's been copied to the iPhone. I wanted to organize each album with the format of "Year - Album" but it doesn't update on the iPhone.

Why can't I copy/paste album art in latest version of iTunes?
