OSX Lion and Epson perfection 2450 scanner

If the application is PPC code, then hopefully Epson have a new Intel64 application for your scanner, because Rosetta is not supported in Lion.

It's up to Epson, but it is an 8 year old scanner, which in technology terms is ancient.

Lion (and prevous OS versions) come with Image Capture - see if that will work.

The scanner you mentioned (Epson Perfection 2450) is supported in Lion accord to this apple support document. The driver was recently updated too (to version 5.3.12 accord to the document). To configure your scanner, go to system preferences-> Print & Scan -> click the Scan tab -> click open scanner... From there you should be able to scan your photos. Image Capture like Colin Robinson said should also work. For other scanning apps, i'd check out the app store. I hope this helps.

Lion's Preview application allows me to scan (Preview>File>Import from Scanner) with very good options and functionality.

I have an Epson Perfection 2450 Photo and Image Capture works fine. I can preview, set the boundaries and set the angle if needed. There are also various filters to choose from.

In OS X 10.7 Lion with the scanner plugged in to USB and turned on and not in use by other software- check for Apple Software Updates. Once updates are downloaded and installed, do a system restart. Image Capture utility should work now. I was scanning to Adobe Acrobat Pro no problem. You may have other apps that work well with Image Capture. If you are still having trouble for about $40 you can buy the VueScan software. Google it. VueScan is very nice software with a clean interface and works with a ton of scanners including the Epson 2450. No need to throw away the trusty Epson! Aloha.

For years now I have been using VueScan by Hamrick which is an excellent scanning program. Works with my Epson 2450. Many more options than what Apple or Epson have ever provided.

After upgeading to Lion, I was unable to access my Epson Perfection 2450 Photo scanner. I discovered the problem for me was connecting via Firewire as opposed to USB. Once I removed my firewire cale and connected via USB, the scanner works fine. Luckily, this scanner offers both options. Hope this helps.

I was in the same boat with my Epson 4180 scanner. Luckily your little trick saved the day and I was able to get something scanned and printed through Preview. I had previously spent a lot of time downloading and installing the updates which did no good, Lion still won't let me use it.

Then I read about opening it through System Preferences and thought I'd found the answer, but that didn't work either. Thanks for your post as it was very helpful to me.

I don't know why you don't have a higher level. You are the only person here who provided step by step instructions for how to make the Epson 2450 Scanner work with OS X 10.8.

Do any of these suggestions allow scanning of slides/negatives using the holders that came with the scanner?

Check the details box for loads of extra options. My issue was slide/negative scanning to higher res but this works absolutely fine and is what i'll now use... 🙂
