The "save as" button disappeared in KeyNote? The duplicate button is no alternative.
Does somebody know where the Save As button has gone in Keynote?
iMac, iOS 4.3.3

If the duplicate button is no alternative, there is no alternative at all. "Save As.." is gone for good.
Cheers 🙂
I need some kind of alternative to the "save as" that use to be in Keynote.
I use the same layout every week in Keynote for the next weeks presentations....which of course, has all new content....but I would hit "save as" in order to give it the new date and name.
I can't figure out a way to do that. Can someone help me please?
And, performing a "Duplicate" then saving that with a new name wouldn't work?
Thank you for reacting.
I know, I can use the duplicate button.
But than you have to look for the saved (duplicated) file and than rename it.
Looks like going back into time.
KeyNote go back to the future.
By the way .... KeyNote is and will stay my favourite program.

Ok, just to make sure I understand your problem I just created a new Keynote file, then created a new folder and saved that file to that folder. Then, I quit Keynote. Using the "Apple" menu, under "Recent Items" and under "Documents" I chose my file and opened it.
Once in Keynote, I used the "File" menu and chose "Duplicate". The file Duplicates in the UI and the new file is named "filename copy". When I choose "Save", the dialog box pops up showing me where to save it, and the bar at the top allows you to change what name you want to save it as. I don't understand the part where you have to look for the duplicated file and then rename it because it's right there to rename before you save it.
It's a little different way of working, but it seems to be a decent enough workaround. Am I missing an important part of your explanation?
Hey Kyn
I got it.
It's a little confusing in the beginning.
I don't know why they changed it, but it's ok for me now.
Thank you for your time.

Our office has gone back to Snow Leopard. (Save As is great to have back!)
For us it was Versions cannot be switched off (decreases security). No "Save As" in many Apps, no Bounce in Mail. 10.7 felt “dumbed down” to us. We will try later, (10.8 maybe).
And make sure your IT guys give 10.8 a more thorough once over before implementing to save headaches 🙂 I know many Windows shops that are behind on upgrading because they refuse to put anything in without a thorough test cycle!
The solution is to not buy keynote, and go with other products that support Save As...
Vote with your purchases.
I think a lot of people were surprised that Lion contained chainges to programs like Keynote.

Yap Im doing that from now on untill something changes and if it doesnt change then Im keeping well away. The competition is just as good. sad but true
What a pain this is...I like to alter a basic presentation I've prepared for different groups and the lack of a save as button seems like a stupid omission. What happened? It was not an improvement to do this. The save as button is one of the most often used buttons on all of my programs to identify versions.
Major Fail, Apple.
In hopes Apple listens to it's customers, I really hate not having a "save as" button and see no useful purpose for this save version button for my needs. I too do presentations every week and would like to be able to save each new version simply with save as - duplicate takes way too many steps to acheive a goal that was blissfully simple before. Change it back please.
Oh and this is my first post ever. That is how motivated I am.
Actually, you can bring back the "Save As" function and I found a way to do it in Youtube. It takes a couple of minutes to hack it back in.
My problem is that the new interface ***** still, because it keeps saving everything when I close the presentation, so sometimes when I make changes that I don't want saved, like for example breaking a presentation to smaller pieces, it will still will save the last version even if I don't want to.
My concern is a bit deeper. I used to like to work with keynote, but I think Apple is taking a wrong path.
Apple upgrades used to be problem solver. Now they create problems instead.
Whoever genius came up with the idea of messing up the whole save process, certainly didn't have the users in mind. I know how I work and how I want to work and I want to be one who will chose whice version and how will be saved, not Apple. I am more and more losing the ability to chose , as Apple further develops their products and that simply frustrates me. I have to learn new ways to bypass the system in order to work as effectively as I did before. If Apple wants to make the mistakes Microsoft did in the 90's, well they should not take us users for granted.
it gets better.
attempt to save a version of an existing document as an older version of keynote and wait for the fun to begin. I'm collaborating with a graphic artist on a presentation that is due today and the two of use are about to throw out friggn computers out the window
