Aug 6, 2012 9:37 AM in response to mintracerby Sixshooter,As a professional photographer for 50 years, I would like to get the thumbnail views back too.
I am posting below what has already been posted about this PROBLEM. I really like to see Apple address the wheres and hows this will be fixed. I used Nikopns but the problem exists in all my icons.
This is something that I find rather ridiculous, and have a hard time believing no-one at Apple has addressed yet.
Basically the problem is that neither Mountain Lion nor Lion show Finder thumbnail preview images for pictures that are taken with SONY digital cameras.
This is something that Snow Leopard, as well as multiple earlier iterations of OS X used to do without any problem. The professional photographer community who uses SONY professional DSLR cameras is up in arms about this. And we've all been crossing our fingers that perhaps the Mac OS X 10.7.1, 10.7.2, 10.7.3, 10.7.4, or possibly the 10.8 update would fix this issue for us.
Several of us have filed bug reports over the past year or two. See this thread:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3213982?tstart=0
This is a flaw in Apple's operating system. Especially considering that there are supposedly 200+ "new features" which were just released in Mountain Lion.
Those of us who work with SONY cameras every day would probably have paid the $19.99 upgrade price for just one "feature". And not even a new one. An old one. The ability to see our pictures in the Finder. Pretty basic stuff.
Hopefully someone fixes this for us with the release of Mac OS X 10.8.1

Aug 19, 2012 5:49 PM in response to danilchaby Posh Bob,And of course Canon CR2 raw files.
Come on Apple - this is getting ridiculous!! I would think that most professional photographers shoot raw and use Macs - why are Apple not working on this night and day to fix it?
-
Aug 23, 2012 1:39 PM in response to Posh Bobby Ben Welland,I'm pretty sure it's a "SONY .ARW" files and "Pentax .PEF" files specific problem.
"Canon .CR2" and "Nikon .NEF" files render their thumbnails properly in Mountain Lion.
Oh...
And. No surprise. But I updated to 10.8.1 today and Apple still hasn't fixed the bug.
Brutal.

All fixed with this CameraRAW update for those wondering.
You can all stop blasting your finder preferences (for those who customize) now and just install this.

Sep 14, 2012 10:15 PM in response to Tesselatorby Winono,Hi,
actually I installed this RAW Comp. update last July, and nothing changed here...

Alas! If life for once could be that simple!
That file has been around for some time already, and did just what it said: update compatibility for Aperture and iPhoto with cameras like the newer Canon Rebel.
No change in thumbnail behaviour in Finder for A700 nor A77 .ARW files
My infernal anger goes without smiley

Sep 16, 2012 11:42 AM in response to Srekamedarby Tesselator,Hmm, well it just all worked for me after installing that. So I dunno what to say.
Some of the icons that it miffed prior to the instalation stayed miffed however - until I used GraphicConverter's remove icon on them. I keep RAW samples from many different cameras on the HDD (including the A77) and they all just started working after the install - automagically.
I suppose some of us have all the luck?
Sorry to hear you're still having troubles. Did you try looking at files not previously touched prior to the install? Or maybe use the GraphicConverter Remove Icon "service" on some of them?

Sep 19, 2012 3:02 PM in response to CJExplorerby danilcha,Hey!
Apple support team has just answered to my bug report:
We believe this issue has been addressed in OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2. The GM version is available now.
OS X 10.8.2 build 12C54

Can anyone confirm this? I'm still on Lion. My bugreport was about thumbnails of Pentax .PEF files.

Sep 19, 2012 3:53 PM in response to danilchaby blu.rr,Well I'll be! Indeed, Mountain Lion 10.8.2 fixed the problem! Pentax .PEF files now have thumbnail images!
-
Sep 20, 2012 7:18 AM in response to blu.rrby Ben Welland,Thank you, thank you, thank you, to whomever at Apple finally fixed this.
After updating to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, SONY .ARW files (and I'm assuming Pentax .PEF files too) now render proper thumbnail icons in the Finder in list view, icon view, coverflow view, and columns view.
Since this is now a recognized bug, I'm guessing that the free update to Lion (10.7.5) that Apple also just released yesterday (September 19th, 2012) will probably fix this issue too.
Hooray!
-
Sep 20, 2012 7:48 AM in response to Ben Wellandby danilcha,Unfortunatelly, they've fixed this only in 10.8.2. For Lion, 10.7.5 changed nothing about that.

Sep 21, 2012 11:53 AM in response to danilchaby Tesselator,I'm glad my way worked (for me) then. Because I'm on a MacPro 1,1 and it's some serious hacking to get 10.8 installed on it.
It also means that there are a lot (?) of photogs and editors who are basically being "blackmailed" into purchasing 10.8. I put that in quotes because it's not actually blackmail... it just kinda resembles it.

Dec 11, 2012 7:17 AM in response to CJExplorerby PatsyApple,Hi everyone,
I've just upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and I can confirm that I still CAN NOT view thumbnail version of .arw for Sony Alpha 99.
Does anyone have any updates on the issue? Have I perhaps miss a critical update installation?
Thank you...
