Aug 1, 2011 9:23 PM in response to CJExplorerby Ben Welland,I'm experiencing the same thing with my installation of Lion. And I hate to say it, but we're just goig to have to wait for 10.7.1
Actually... I seem to remember the exact same thing happening when Snow Leopard came out! I shoot with SONY cameras too, and I was able to see preview images of all my ".ARW" raw images in the Finder in Leopard. Then, along came Snow Leopard, and I wasn't able to see preview images anymore. Apple eventually released 10.6.1 and SONY raw image support was once again supported in the Finder. But to think that this is happening again with the release of Lion! It's kind of infuriating actually.
If, however, 10.7.1 doesn't give us SONY photographers raw image previews, I'll be sure to help you raise a stink! Not that we'd get anywhere... SONY shooters are certainly not Apple's priority. Hopefully we won't be left behind. Makes me recall that old "Bush-ism" Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me, you can't get fooled again!
Ben.

Aug 7, 2011 9:15 PM in response to CJExplorerby blu.rr,Even though Lion officially supports the raw format (.pef) of my Pentax camera, my files are also missing their thumbnails. Strangely, though, I have seven images (out of hundreds) that were somehow able to generate them. Based on this bizarre behavior, I wonder if its not just one of the many bugs in Lion...?

Aug 11, 2011 9:23 PM in response to CJExplorerby CJExplorer,I did a software update tonight and it seemed to fix the problem. I can now view .arw thumbnails.
Does the update fix anyone else's problem?

Aug 11, 2011 9:39 PM in response to CJExplorerby Ben Welland,What software update? 10.7.1 Hasn't been released yet has it? I'm anxiously awaiting the release. Does anyone know if it'll be available via the "Software Update" application, or if Apple will be requiring users to launch the "App Store" application to find updates to OSX Lion whenever they become available? I've been checking both daily. Cause not being able to view thumbnails for my .ARW files has really slowed down my workflow. (I own a photography company and I'm a SONY shooter).

Aug 18, 2011 5:03 PM in response to kocurby Ben Welland,Same here. 10.7.1 Didn't address the issue. Perhaps I should call Apple and alert them to this problem. Anyone know the best number for reporting stuff like this?

Aug 23, 2011 12:57 PM in response to CJExplorerby bwdaly,I am having the same problem, and it continues after upgrading to 10.7.1.
I can still see thumbnails from images I looked at BEFORE I upgraded to Lion.
I presume the thumbnails were either extracted from the ARW files or rendered or whatever by the previous OS, Snow Leopard. Lion seems incapable of creating them. I've tried the size-change fix to no avail.

Sep 4, 2011 4:30 AM in response to CJExplorerby CarlosB,Hi,
I had the same problem. After trying out everything here and nothing resolving this issue, I solved with this solution.
go to your user preferences folder at
/users/(your user name here)/Library/Preferences
and move this files to desktop (to keep a backup just in case)
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.finder.plist.lockfile
Reboot and login
Everything should be ok now and you can delete the file above
some of your preferences may change but its easyer to redefine them than to click all icons to find the Photo you want.

Sep 4, 2011 9:50 AM in response to CarlosBby Ben Welland,YES! This works.Thank you so much CarlosB!!!
For anyone who doesn't know how to "view" the User Library in OSX Lion, the easiest way is to go to the "Go" menu in the finder, hold down the "alt/option" key on your keyboard and the option to click on "Library" will appear.(by default the User Library is hidden from view).
Also. Note that there's nothin to be scared of as far as "some of your preferences changing" goes... The only things that seem to change are the default icon size for finder windows and the desktop, as well as grid spacing, and default sorting options for icons on the desktop. Nothing a few clicks of a few checkboxes and sliders can't restore in 2 minutes.
Thanks again CarlosB. This fix makes OSX Lion "useable" again. (I'm a professional photographer who shoots several thousand frames per week with SONY dSLR cameras!)

Sep 5, 2011 8:46 AM in response to Ben Wellandby CarlosB,Ben,
I also take photos with a sony DSLR. Not a professional one but theAlpha700.
So this was one annoying issue.
But, I haven't found the reason why, after a few days the problem returned.
This happened after setting up my preferences. When we do this, some how, the preferences file becomes 'corrupted' or changes any bit/byte that interferes with icon display.
But if we repeat the process (delete prefs files), things become all right again.
hope this helps.
