Time Machine Encrypted Hard Drive Damaged

I decided to encrypt my Time Machine hard drive and now I get this message in Disk Utility:

Unable to bootstrap transaction group 11187: invalid field value

No valid commit checkpoint found

The volume A99C346D-B570-4DDF-B6C2-EFEEEDABF29D was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.

Error: Storage system verify or repair failed.

I've never had an issue with this drive until I checked to encrypt it.

Hi

Follow the hint here:

http://identi.ca/conversation/77388726#notice-79972252

If that does not resolve the issue, then in Terminal please run these two commands:

diskutil list

diskutil coreStorage list

Paste the results to this topic. When replying, for the plain text paste, to preserve the indents please use advanced editor then the blue » menu to apply plain syntax highlighting.

The results might help someone (not necessarily me) interpret whether Core Storage forward conversion completed before the issue arose.

Expect Apple's diskutil(8) Mac OS X Manual Page to be updated for 10.7 in due course, after which information on Core Storage, which can be used for (amongst other things) encryption, will be more easily understood.

Kind regards

Graham
