Finder freezes with NFS shares

I have a few NFS shares that I need to mount. This works fine when I'm on the same network, but when I'm on the road my brand new Macbook Pro with Lion freezes if the NFS server is not accessible. I have tried multiple mount options to no avail.

I remeber always having trouble with NFS and OS X. I don't know if Apple has done their own implementation of the protocol? Anyway, the Finder seems to handle it very very bad.

Has anyone mounted NFS shares with luck, that is using NFS without your computer completely going beachball on you if the shares are not accessible? If so, please share your mount options.

I ran into the same thing. After futzing around with NFS options, I gave up and just used Command-K to mount those NFS shares on demand. Removed all entries from Disk Utility's NFS Share config, rebooted, and all is well.

I'm having this EXACT same problem. When I was mounting shares through SMB @ logon, I would get a simple error message which I could dismiss and move on with. Now I'm automounting shares via NFS through the program 'NFS Manager' and its absolutely destroying my Finder when I'm not at home.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, very similiar problem here. I'm using automount maps for my media drives when at home, then when I'm out of the office finder is very unreliable and itunes almost always hangs on startup.

To get any stability back i need to comment out the entry in /etc/auto_master and restart the automount daemon.

Some sort of fix would be much appreciated!

I am experiencing something simular here,

Using either AFP, NFS or SMB and connecting to a Snowleopard server share, Then either copying a file or from that share (or shares on it) Finder Fails to refresh and hangs. (the icon for the file sticks floating above the folder and additional changes on the desktop are not reflected) after which, I must relaunch finder (using force quit) to get the screen to refresh the changes.

I am using Clean installs of the OS, ran across this in 10.7 / 10.7.1/ &10.7.2 I have tried letting the systems sit to re index, I also have tried Disk repair on the Boot drives repairing permissions.. to no avail.

I am seeing this on the last 3 gens of Mac Mini, the last 2 gens of macbook pro (15 & 17 inch) as well as seeing it on the last 3 generations of iMac systems. (21.5 & 27 inch systems)

I'm puzzled here as at first i thought it was limited to SMB. but after messing with it all day today and checking hardware configs to see if it reproduces and comming up with same results (usually after the first copule of files being copied).. i'm pretty sure it's a Bug on the OS side..

I am seeing the same behavior with NFS clients running Snow Leopard and I was hoping this would have been fixed in Lion.

Same issue here on my MBA running 10.7.3. If my nfs server isn't available, Finder and anything else hangs trying to list any directory. Very, very annoying.
