Can't Connect Windows XP Pro to Airport Extreme

I just purchased a new iMac and set up an Airport Extreme, and it works flawlessly.

I am plugging in my old PC with Windows XP sp2 to the new Airport Extreme, and I have internet, and can see the name of my Network in Network Places, but even without security (no password) I cannot access the Network from the PC, and without it I can't use the Migration Assistant to migrate to the new Mac. It continually just reports "[network] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the admininistrator blah blah blah."

Can somebody help me please? I'll be so grateful. 🙂

I have updated the Windows XP Pro OS, and still nothing. There are no tutorials on the web for problems with a cabled connection. All the tutorials are for wireless. This computer doesn't have wireless connectivity, and the options are completely different. 😟

Any suggestions?

I'm so terribly disappointed that I won't be able to use the Migration Assistant to move from the PC to the MAC. Apple makes working so easy, and most of the time I spend on my Microsoft products is spent trying to make them work. I have had no such issue since I purchased my new MAC 5 years ago, and any glitches are always easily resolved. I have had nothing but greif on the PC and Microsoft products, which I will not miss AT ALL. I only wish there was a steep cliff near my house so I could enjoy the sadistic pleasure of watching this POS bounce off the rocks, after all this misery.

I know that all of you would have gladly helped me if you had any idea how.

I look forward to never having to work with MicroCrap again. 🙂

It was. Still is. 😟

This is an excellent resource. I wish I had been able to find it when I was struggling with this. I'm glad I posted; someone else may be able to solve their problem without resorting to a manual migration. There are a few other tweaks on this list I saw nowhere else that might have solved my problem, were it not too late now and I'm finished migtrating except for a few photo folders.

Both the Airport Extreme and the Migration Assistant documention is woefully lacking in information to make a PC work. Did I say I hate PCs?

Thanks!
