Can't install Final Cut Studio 2 because "PowerPC applications are no longer supported"

Bought a brand new 15" MacBookPro OS X 10.7 2.2Ghz Intel Core i7 and tried to install Final Cut Studio 2. Got the error message "You can't open the application FinalCutStudio.mpkg because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Oh no, does this mean I have to spend more money!???

I don't know whether this helps, but I had to wipe my drive, reinstall SL an dall my apps, complete all the software updates (inscluding that last one for SL that helped prepare the SL transfer to Lion), then reinstalled Lion 10.7.1. Additionally, I installed Rosetta and QT7 off the SL disk, and all works perfectly- both FCS2 and Adobe CS3 (I was having similar issues as well with those apps). Thanks to all the help here!

I finally got Final Cut Studio 2 installed on my Lion mac.

You can install Rosetta on Lion from the Snow Leopard installation disk. Put in your Snow Leopard DVD and navigate to the hidden /System/Installation/ directory. Find Rosetta, open and install it.

I had no errors here.

After this, open the Final Cut Studio 2.0 installer, and it should work normally. Unfortunately this trick does not re-enable all PowerPC apps, but somehow the installer works.

Hope this helps.

I owned FCS2 which I used for some small vids, travellogues etc. It worked while Snow Leopard was installed. I listened to the Apple hype and accepted that what they were selling was important to the functionality of the hardware and software that I had. So I installed Lion over Snow leopard.

I hadn't used FCS since beginning of June and had no warning of the disaster that lay ahead until last night when I had to edit an audio/video audition tape. I now have real problems. FCS works, more or less, but it's impossible to use Compressor when exporting to Mpeg 2. There is no audio with the video and there is only half the the video there anyway.

The FCS software was worth A$1500 when I bought it and I never intended to upgrade as I don't use it commercially. So you can imagined how ****** I am that Mr Apple and the boys have sold me on OSX Lion as if it was the answer to a maiden's prayers when all it did functionally was to stuff some pretty expensive pieces of software.

And Mr Apple forgot to warn me of exactly what it would do. If he had warned me, I could have chosen to ignore the advertising hype and stick with older Snow Leopard, knowing that my applications would remain viable.

Now I find that pretty cheap and nasty. Particularly since, as a result of a defect in the code, Lion also caused Safari to crash (black screen of death at least daily and often three or four times a day.

As you can tell, I am very angry.

Jeremy:

I have been propogating your solution recently as more requests to install FCS2 into Lion and more recently Mt. Lion, have surfaced.

Here is the most recent example:
