Q: What happened to Save As?

I use pages for my work invoices and have a pretty comprehensive filing for previous invoices. The omission of 'save as' in the lion version of pages is extremely frustrating. Is there a work around? Will they fix this in the future or should I switch to a microsoft excel worksheet?

I am so used from other programs to have "Save as" so this really mess up my invoices. Imaging the same thing in photoshop?

Today I do a copy using Finder > archive > duplicate.  Then opening the copy, do changes, closed it.  Sometimes it is a box asking where to save and give me a possibility to change name, sometimes not.  If not I write a new name directly on the file.   This is the only way I have absolute controll.

Why on earth not number as an alternativ in export?  Or a possibility to turn off auto save?  Locked files....

This is a forum for people who have Lion and want to solve issues. If the solution to an issue on Lion is to not use Lion, then there would be no forum here to solve issues in using Lion. So that is never a solution to post here.

People who want to use Lion or have to use Lion are here looking for a solution to using Lion. This forum is about solutions, not telling people to stop using Lion. That is the childish solution, and therefore not a real solution.

35 pages of discussion and over 12,000 views makes it clear that this IS an issue for many people. Therefore while some people are happy with the way things are, not everyone is. These people are asking for a choice. Those that are happy with the changes, leave this forum alone and let those who want a solution find one.

    Hi:

    I agree completely with Steve.

I am not about to go back or across to the dark side because of this.  I will find other ways of getting this resolved.

Have tried the Pixelator solution by downloading a trial version.  Cannot get it working at all.  I am in contact with a very helpful person from Pix...  who does not understand why it will not work on my machine as it works perfectly for them.  They are trying to get it resolved.

I asked if the download program is the same as the Appstore program.    they say it should be the same.

I then modified the terminal command to see if it would work for pages   also no go.

I have a copy of my system on a hard drive and use it for this type of testing.   would not risk or touch my production system......

To those of you who wish to experiment take the advice from a long time software/hardware/operation person.... buy a hard drive, copy your system over  then play with the test version.   Every so often copy the production over again so you know you are testing on a clean working system...  Never ever copy anything from the test system to the production system.....  until you are two hundred percent sure and even them....

    will continue the fight.

For Pixelmator to come up with this fix must mean it is important for them and many others like us must be  contacting them.

    cheers elo

ps:   I also assume all of you already have a complete backup system available.   It does not have to be time machine but a stand alone backup system copied over by Super Duper or others

Thanks for your advice. As an answer, I will ask Apple if Pixelmator is matching the rules.

    Hi steve..

As you said those who cannot contribute in a positive fashion to our cause or commisserate with us by coming up with ideas to be checked out should disappear from this forum.

If Steve Jobs and apple had followed all the rules then we would not have had the Apple of today.

Likewise if every professional potter that I know just followed the same path then the ceramic world would be a very boring place.  Every potter I know work differently and do not follow set rules. We need both within the arts and the business world people that are willing to stretch the boundaries and try new things.  Would it not be terrible if we only had mugs without handles because someone decided it was simpler and easier without them as some of us might break the handle or heaven forbid it might fall off because the potter forgot a step in the process?

Hopefully maybe a better solution will be forthcoming to the SAVE AS issue by our work on this discussion. Already other developers are working and delivering alternatives.  We are not alone.

    Cheers elo

    Hi

It would be nice if somehow Apple would recognize our concerns in some way or at least acknowledge that they are aware of the issue and are trying to address in some way.

    cheers elo

If anyone is interested in doing some playing around.

I have the feeling (gut) that if you look at what NeoOffice did, then Graphic Converter , then Pixelmator  that the UNIX terminal command to turn off Autosave is there.   I can just not get it to work on my machine.   why I do not know..

    will keep testing...

Great Idea Yvan. While at it, you might want to check what their opinion is on that Little Snitch app, I was always curious…

    Re:

my previous comments on the Unix command .  As these commands appear to be imbedded in the guts of OSX they obviously must follow the rules.  Therefore I see no issues with us trying out new ways of using the existing software.  However they could be withdrawn at anytime a new update comes out so lets not depend on what we come up with.

    cheers elo

    I'm always serious.

There are rules to be in the list of applications matching Lion rules.

If an app doesn't match the rules, it's dishonest compared to others.

If the rules are violated by Pixelmator, it will be removed from the list as was GraphicConvert.

It will remain in the MAS as is GraphicConvert.

If they disagree with that, they just have to remove their extraneous piece of code.

One more time, you prove that you are unable to read carefully.

Little Snitch is not in the list of applications matching OS X Lion rules, more, as far as I know, it's not available thru the MAS.

Now that is funny, it is YOU he is talking about. You are the Little Snitch App. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Maybe you should learn a bit more English next time Yvan...

While you and Apple might win this battle, what you don't understand is that you have already lost the war. Any company that goes into battle with its customers is lost.

I am now one of the many who is looking for an alternative solution to Apple. I came to Apple to get away from this behavior at Microsoft. Their shares have been static for years as more and more people chose Apple. Now it is Apple who will suffer as people will look for an alternative.

While the dictators have their time in the sun, their days are numbered, as people will continue to choose choice over dictatorship. Welcome to Yvan's 3rd Reicht. The end is near.

(I defer to Godwin's Law in that last paragraph...)

Thanks. While this particular forum has degenerated into a laugh the issues are real and people are dealing with them. I am waiting for Mountain Lion and if it fails to fix this then I will leave Apple. These things really matter.
