Q: What happened to Save As?

I use pages for my work invoices and have a pretty comprehensive filing for previous invoices. The omission of 'save as' in the lion version of pages is extremely frustrating. Is there a work around? Will they fix this in the future or should I switch to a microsoft excel worksheet?

    Hi:

thinking about the issue of pages and numbers once again.

my version of it worked as I wanted  in 10.6.8     the same version then changed in 10.7.3

therefore there is a key to turn it on and off.

    think pixelmator, neooffice, graphic converter

maybe the same key instruction in terminal works...??

I am having problems with it changing even pixelmator who do not know why?  Yet?(they are very helpful)

    think it is me

anyone else out there willing to try it...???

    cheers   elo laugesen

Regarding templates, DChord, I find it interesting that Save as Template... does not have a keyboard equivalent, which means that if I were to save every document as a template file, I could not conclude my work and arrive at the PutFile dialog box by typing command-W or command-S.

Since the delivery of the very first OS X, we may attach a shortcut to every existing menu item.

In french, « Save As Template… » is spelled « Enregistrer comme modèle…  » and I gave it a shortcut.

No luck. Such a feature require the availability of code able to execute it in the applications.

The tip doesn't apply to Apple applications deprieved of Save As.

In iWork applications, it's the system's version which is used as a switch.

    Yvan:

you are  an Artist and I live with one(my wife and partner) and I have owned  several galleries in canada and england.

I have looked at your web sites, past images of pots etc.    you are very creative, tried new things in fact you have pushed the boundaries....  you made a living of it(which is more than most artist do)

do not tell me you do not push/play with the software on your computer with the access you have to the new world of apple.??? I Know there are rules.        but no potter ever followed the set standard rules for firing a kiln or using the same glaze as every one else.     likewise   no coffee mug ever looks the same???

Help us....   then you and all us of go back to apple and say... what they dream up is not always perfect?

is that not what apple really want from Beta Testers?   I and my staff in my past had to do the following

    1.  Check that beta software  works according to the book and our specs?

    2.  Is it useable...   can you live with it?   can the other users live with it? Is it good for the company(apple)

    cheers elo

It seems that my wording was not clear.

When the app « see » that it's running under 10.6, it exec the old fashioned code.

When it « see » that it's running under 10.7 or higher, it exec the new code.

It's what is done by GraphicConvert according to its dedicated preference which is visible (UI available).

It's what is done by Pixelmator according to its dedicated preference which is hidden (no UI available).

My job as tester is not this one.

I check the French localization which alas contain a huge number of spelling and Grammar error.

I don't check the technical aspects.

They are numerous beta testers doing that but not to check the localization.

I apologize but this message is my last one (at least for some weeks).

If I don't do that, I will be banned for a week.

From my point of view, trying to explain that you are wrong is less interesting than helping users which are facing true problems so I leave you.

    Yvan,

Don't leave yet. One last question.

It seems from what you said above that  there is no technical reason why the preference option we are requesting could not easily be provided in any app?

    Hi:

quickly..   just fired up 10.6.8 then ran both pages and the numbers apps from my 10.7.03 disc...

    worked with save as....no versions....

that means as I said earlier the code is there.

could someone try the terminal instructions i mentioned earlier to turn off autosave for pages and numbers...

    something is there....

    sounds like science fiction...

    cheers...  elo

"I no longer have access to the pre-Lion edition of iWork to see if command-shift-S or some other keystroke combination invoked Save As, the way it does in most Adobe applications."

    Numbers '09 (pre-Lion) file menu:

Shift-command-S for Save as... is pretty common, going back at least to ClarisWorks.

    elo...

Numbers '09 v4.0.x (x=3 in this case), running under Tiger. Not quite the same version.

Posted to answer Dennis's implied question regarding keystroke shortcut to Save as... in pre-Lion versions.

    Barry
