Q: What happened to Save As?

I use pages for my work invoices and have a pretty comprehensive filing for previous invoices. The omission of 'save as' in the lion version of pages is extremely frustrating. Is there a work around? Will they fix this in the future or should I switch to a microsoft excel worksheet?

Let's just hope that French, demented, old Pavliks don't have too much influence on Apple's decisions...

LOL! I had to follow the link.

Here in my hometown, that term has a very different connotation!

Agreed!  If we are fortunate enough to get this problem solved, even partially, I will be the first to offer up a recipe for humble pie.   And you can probably guess what some of the ingredients will be.

    elol,

I've just been busy, so no offence taken. I think you guys are all great.

I will let you know when the ebook is ready. It will be in a few months time. I have to complete some other ebooks first. I will come here and contact you all about it. It will be available on the iBooks store for iPad!

Until then I'm off again. I was just passing through here and I saw the comments you all left me. Thanks.

Enjoy the future whatever Apple does, and say hi to Pavliks, or the little snitch. He actaully looked it up...

Without having to go through 47 or more pages of arguing...is there actually a solution to this as I want to Save As a Word Document for other people to read?

    Thanks

Scratch that...just found Export...would still prefer the Save As function though.

No.  You have to do it their way, which is to duplicate and save the copy of your document.

Hello everybody. A quick update about Mountain Lion.

    1. Save As will be back, pressing the Option key while selecting the File menu.

    2. Autosave on program exit can be disabled so that if you exit an app with modified content it asks yu if you want to save or not

Now what is missing is an option to completely disable the Versions crap and it's done.

    Cheers

    Hi stefano67,

Yes, I've seen screen shots from the developer's preview. Very good to see that Apple does indeed listen to its customers. Even though Autosave/Versions is technically still running, you at least have the option to "disable" it by closing your documents and telling it to ignore all changes.

All in all, along with a Save As, you can do everything as before. Though there is still one big problem. As users of Final Cut Pro X, Pages, and other apps with Autosave enabled on large documents, you still have the issue of apps becoming almost completely unresponsive as it Autosaves yet another minor change, and you have to watch the spinning lollipop - again - before you can continue working.

Some nice changes in ML from Apple for sure, but they still need to allow users to turn it OFF.

    DChord,

If I'm not mistaken, according to the screenshot from post 54 (from your link), another option added that is currently default in SL is the option to "Close windows when quitting an application."

Sounds like those that were reporting dissatisfaction with certain applications automatically opening the last documents open, now have the option to turn that off.  That sounds like something I would want, because even if SL had the option to "...restore open documents..." I would NOT enable that option.  When I close Pages, Numbers, Preview, etc. I want it to be CLOSED, shut down, done!  When I open it, I want to choose what it opens.  I suppose there are those that like the same document(s) to open everytime.  That's what (did) makes Apple desktops so awesome...CHOICE!  That's why I've always loved my Mac.  Choice.

So if Apple changes certain OS behaviors, I hope they will realize this and work in ways to allow users choices.

    cheers!  Things are looking up!
