Q: What happened to Save As?

I use pages for my work invoices and have a pretty comprehensive filing for previous invoices. The omission of 'save as' in the lion version of pages is extremely frustrating. Is there a work around? Will they fix this in the future or should I switch to a microsoft excel worksheet?

That is all true. I mentioned Xee to be used strictly as a viewer, which is all I use Preview for. If I want to edit images, I use Photoshop. Here's some of the higher rated free editors on MacUpdate's site:

I was just going to suggest that one. Cheap at only $64. Does a lot of what it's big brother can for a fraction of the cost. Elements doesn't support CMYK, so keep that in mind.

    Kurt,

Elements is too heavy for what I am doing. It creates layers I don't need etc. powerful but complex.

I tried Seashore and it was a disaster compared to Preview. Everything was so complicated to achieve simple outcomes. Powerful but complex.

Preview was powerful and uncomplicated, the Steve Jobs way.

I will try live quartz. The others look powerless and complex.

    Steve.

Steve, Can you get over to Sanur? You can find me at The wicked Parrot or the Cat & Fiddle.

Sorry Mark, I am busy in Kuta the next few days and I am probably leaving on Friday, depending on some Visa stuff. If plans change I will let you know. It would be weird to meet a real person from this forum. Thanks. Steve.

Ladies and Gentlemen - "save as"

Rather than using the Cloven Hoof of Doom keyboard shortcut, do this:

System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Application Shortcuts>All Applications>+>Menu Title (this has to be exact) Save As... (capital S and A and 3 fullstops)>Keyboard Shortcut (whatever you like) F6

This works for anything that has the ability to "Save As"

Ha ha yes weird, scarey even. What if one of us turned out to be Koenig in disguise? I might have to block your visa! Sanur is the best place to stay by the way. Have you found Rimo Plaza yet?

I'm still using Preview - even with the duplicate/save routine slowing it down, it is still the quickest way to do what I want to do.

    Cheers

    Mark

Haaaa. Funniest thing ever. "No Luke, I am your Koenig!" Sorry my French is not good enough, my potting skills non existent and my arrogance are not big enough to be the great man himself. I'm just a simple writer and traveler. I might be back in Bali in a month's time. I spent a lot of time on Lembongan so I know Sanur. Maybe we can meet up then?

Classic. Enjoy the sunrise and the morning price. We in Kuta have the sunset and the evening price. You know what I mean. I checked on Yvan and he's been off this forum for 3 months. I guess Apple had a word to him?

Kurt, Live Quartz looks interesting. Thank you. Hopefully in Mountain Snow Lion they will fix the whole fiasco...

The hosts will never say what actions they take with any user, but I think he may have gotten himself banned. You'll note tonza is no longer around, either.

I posted only some free ones I tried. If you'd like to look through shareware and commercial stuff, try this list.

I would hope it's a bug, but it isn't really fixed at this time. With TextEdit in ML, if you turn on the option in the System Preferences to always ask if changes should be saved, it only works when you first create a document. When you close the file, it asks. You say no, and when you relaunch TextEdit, it's blank as you would expect.

Problem. Now create any text file with any ol' thing you want to type in it. Save the file and close. Reopen the file, make some changes and do a Save As to a new name and close both files. Even with the system prefs on to ask before saving a file with changes, your original will be identical to the Save As file. The changes were saved to the original without asking.

I figure this thread is about to be deleted.

I started a thread once, around a decade ago, and it had more posts than any other discussion on the Apple forums (at least any that had not been deleted at the time).

However... after a huge number of pages it disappeared. So I started the same thread again, thinking it had been an accident that it had disappeared (how niave)... and it again started getting a lot of posts.

But when it too disappeared (a search for it came up empty again as had the previous search for the original thread) I realized something was not right.

Shortly afterwards I was contacted not to restart the thread or I could face being banned from the Apple forums.

So it wouldn't surprise me if others have been banned for complaining too much... even when they haven't used any bad language, etc.

It's one of the reasons I rarely post to this forum anymore.
