Files on my desktop reorganized after booting up

My files are placed on my desktop at specific places, but after booting up they were reorganized, and all of them were below my harddisk icon.

How can this happen if I don't ask to reorganize my files, and how can I prevent this in the future?

yvesleon,

Go to Finder>View Options>Show View Options...and choose "Sort By" None.

Thank you Baltwo, but what I found is a bit cryptic for someone who does not know his way around hidden files.

All in all what I did after reading many comments in the discussions was download Onyx, deleted the .DS-Store file with that, and then entered the command you suggested in terminal and relaunched finder.

Let's hope that this will work.

Thanks.

K, those preferences you showed are for visualization INSIDE a Finder's window.

For arranging files on my DESKTOP, these are the only options available:

so as I said, I select NONE, but later, when I turn on my iMac, my desktop files are all arranged by NAME, even though NONE is still checked on the preferences, just like the picture. I wanna know why is iMac doing it and how to fix it.
