How do i fix "an unknown error" 1618?

Question

How do i fix "an unknown error" 1618?

My brand new iPod touch won't restore!

Every time i plug in my new ipod i get the message telling me that it needs to be factory restored to its default settings. I click restore- it authorises with apple ect, and the ipod flashes and comes up with an empty bar.

Once this has happened, i receive the message;

"The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1618)."

Please could a big clever handsome tech guy tell me what on earth i'm doing wrong!

I've got exactly the same issue, was doing the update today and the iphone came up with a message saying update did not happen, next thing it wants to do a restore but cannot and keeps coming up with error 1618.

I have tried on another laptop with itunes and it's the same problem.

So at the moment I have an iPhone 4 that will not switch on either with a Hard Reset or Soft one!

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for the tip, have managed to get it to restore on another pc, without any virus protection. Only problem I now have is that the pc is not recognising the iPhone and it's stuck on 'Emergency Calls Only'. Have tried the Hard Reset many times with it plugged in but it doesn't see the phone in itunes.

Any help is much appreciated.

On Windows 7 or Vista, disable UAC in start>control panel>user accounts. restart PC. device disconnected, turn completely off. perform this procedure: open itunes. simultaniously connect cable and hold home button until itunes message "detected device in recovery mode" . acknowledge message, click restore.

First of all sorry for the bad english. When i'm trying to update my iphone to 4.3.5 i always get the error 1618. When i'm trying to get my old firmware back it says 3194. I just want to update to 4.3.5 en use my iphone again.I tried it on Three other pcs . And virusscans and firewalls aro set off. What else can i do? Please help me.

Same problem here, iPod Touch 4 wasn't syncing so I tried to restore and now stuck on apple logo and loading bar then error 1618.. Please help! If you had the same issue please don't be selfish and give the answer!

Could be anti virus software and the firewall preventing the restore process.

Apparently its stuck in recovery mode, but i'm the least technical minded gal out there, so i still need help in getting it unstuck please!
