IP Printing (LPD/LPR) through Windows 2003 Server
I'm having difficulties with printing through our Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition. Printer Protocol is LPD/LPR. Pcounter from AND Technologies is also used to enforce print quotas and users are authenticated against Active Directory when they log in.
The printer is correctly configured in Print Setup Utility and page size is A4 (as it should be in Europe). Printer model in question is HP LaserJet 2100 Series.
Symptoms:
(1) The print job dissappears without trace, never shows up on the print server queue.
(2) The print job ends up on the queue on the server but the number of pages on the server shows N/A and the queue stalls. Yet, the Mac seems to spool and send correct number of pages.
(3) The print job is rejected by the server and print queue on the Mac says "Remote host did not accept data file."
The problem is not limited HP printers, sometimes Minolta-QMS 7300 spits out empty white sheet when a document is printed from Adobe Photoshop CS. Printing simple web pages from browser works most of the time.
I know IP Printing is not the best printing solution but we are stuck with it because of the print quota software which is used on the Windows side too. AppleTalk is disabled. AND Technologies, which supplied the print quota software has not bothered to answer my questions.
I have deleted printers on the Mac side, re-installed them, stopped and started print jobs on the Mac without success.
