iPod Touch 4G - unable to update to 4.3.5

Hi All,

Hoping someone could help me out... I cannot back up my wife's iPod Touch to the latest software... I've removed all backups within iTunes as well as deleted Sync History...

No problems with my iPad or iPhone.. any suggestions?

Hey JimHdk - Thanks for asking...

It takes me to the following site - but with no number specified in the error it is hard to troubleshoot. I've done the basics of resetting etc..

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275

Based on the listing of errors (each of which I had to go through) the closest error description was the very last... but I don't think this is the problem... what do you think?

Error 40265xxxx: Errors of the 40265xxxx range generally occur during the restore-from-a-backup phase, after iOS has been installed on the device. Restoring the device and setting up as new can resolve the issue. Before restoring as new, take steps to preserve the previous backups created by iTunes, such as copying the contents of the Backup directory onto the desktop. See iPhone and iPod touch: About backups to learn where backups are stored for your computer's operating system and additional precautionary notes regarding setting up as new. The backups created by iTunes store data such as your SMS, Favorites, Bookmarks, and other app data.

The update process usually begins after iTunes has created a backup of the current state of your iPod. From the error you received it would appear that the backup could not be completed for an unknown reason. Without any error code troubleshooting this is quite difficult.

Some things you might try (in order of desperation):

  • Restart your PC - low chance of success if you had no problems with updating your other devices
  • Turn off any firewall or anti-virus software on your PC during the operation - similar to above
  • Use a different USB port on your computer - similar to above
  • Use Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings on the iPod - Some setting on the iPod may be corrupt
  • Attempt restoring the iPod to your most recent backup - assuming you saved the backups somewhere
  • Restore the iPod as a new device

Good luck

You seem to know what your doing so i wonder if you can help me?

My iPod will not even let me get as far as downloading the new software for the update. It says there is a connection error however my internet is fine, i'm not using my iPod and there seems to be no other problem but then it keeps popping up saying it cant download the update. Its not driving me insane as i can't get many of the new useful apps as i need 4.3 and above (i haven't updated my ipod in a very long time!).

Please help me, i've tried contacting apple but can't get to a simple email request to ask them why this is happening. Wait for your reply, thank you!

Yes using my laptop to download it through iTunes however after posting it on Facebook, a friend posted me a link saying apparently there's been a few problems and to try a few suggestions but I've tried them all and left with the only option left of trying it the advanced user way of downloading it onto my laptop but as you've probably guessed.. I'm far from an advanced user! Lol
